OK, this is probably a silly question, but I have looked in all kinds of places and I can't find an answer (or I'm asking the wrong question).

In EVERY movie I have EVER seen that shows someone getting an email on their computer (You Have Mail, Mission Impossible, The Net, Disclosure, etc., etc., etc.) they always receive some nifty animated indicator on their desktop to show that they have received an unread email - tumbling envelopes, pulsating mailboxes, etc.

Where can I find an add-on app that does that? :)

Incredimail does it. It's a downloadable app that will check your e-mail for you every so often (I think it's changable, mine's set for every five min) and will offer a little animated notifier whenever you have a new message. It also offers message backgrounds for outgoing e-mail and all kinds of other toys. It's free, or you can sign up for a gold membership and get extra features. Go to Incredimail.com and check it out, it may be what you're looking for.

Ah, yes - I had forgotten about IncrediMail! The Fisher-Price version of Outlook Express! ;)

I actually used this for a while a few years ago. Can't remember why I gave it up.

Thanks!

If you have MSN messenger and you are logged on, you get a little window that pops up and makes a ding noise and says "you have 1 new message" and it tells you who it is from, or at least mine is set up that way.

And, not surprisingly, a toolbar notification (with counter) has been a standard Mac feature forever.
