Rare piece of history, one of only two knives ever engraved by BOTH Buster Warenski and Julie Warenski, Buster on one side and Julie on the other.

It's rare to find Buster's engraving on but a handful of other makers' knives, with the combination of both Buster and Julie unheard of - until this one popped up.

Bill Ankrom lockback with some really nice, matched blacklip pearl scales and Devin Thomas stainless Damascus blade.

Yeah, I am a Warenski freak, couldn't believe my eyes when I found it online and bought it, then Julie confirmed the history - that only two such knives exist. From 2002 - she remembers them well.

Bob,
Another exceptional work of art!
Are you able to identify aspects of the engraving
particular to the hand of either Julie and Buster, or are they indistinguishable in nature?

David, actually Coop thought the two sides seemed indistiquishable from each other. This is the case as it relates to the form and pattern. But when you really look closely, Julie has more fine detail lines in her side, both in the bolster engraving and the escutcheon.

It's really hard to notice unless you really compare closely. After all, Buster trained Julie. If you look really close at the escutcheon patterns, you will see a slight difference, but in the fine detail work only, not the style.

WOW:eek: Congratulations Bob!

Exquisite knife even without the provenance. Beautiful pearl and DT spirograph damascus. Easy to see why you would NOT hesitate to pull the trigger on that.

Thanks for posting it,
Peter

Hello Bob,

I think that such a knife displaying an unusual husband/wife
collaboration is a good candidate for a book (if ever done)
on the History of Modern Custom Knifemaking!

All the best,

I remember talking to Buster about this knife. He said I took him twice as long to engrave as Julie.

I love Bill's work. He is one of the best folder makers out there. The guy is a scientist when it comes to the mechanics of folders.

Oh, and Bill makes my steel look good.

Great piece.

Thanks very much, Devin, for adding to this great story. That is so cool to have your added perspective, with your having "been there". Funny how things come around in circles sometimes. The very, very first custom folder I ever purchased was from Bill Ankrom years ago. And now this Buster find, that includes almost all of my favorite artists - Bill, Buster, Julie and you!

Peter, yes, I sure did luck out finding it - David, sounds like that would be a great book, but all your books are wonderful. They keep us all thrilled with great images, right at arm's length, not to mention outstanding commentary.

Best,

Bob

David - I think a book on Buster Warenski would be an EXCELLENT idea. In my opinion, his contributions to the world of Art Knives is unsurpassed.

Good to see one of Bill's knives featured here. A very special piece, indeed!!
Congratulations on this find, Bob.

Bill is one of my favorite makers and I never fail to learn something during our conversations.
