Annealed N690

Today annealed N690 for the 1st time according to instructions. Steel colour is now ( Yellow/ Gold.
Is that normal or did i do something wrong.
 
Surface colors mean almost nothing. It is just surface oxides.

For clarity, you should tell us how you did the annealing.

Heat Treating N690 from Bohler Uddeholm (recommended)

Annealing N690:


It is recommended to anneal after any laser cutting or hammering of steel to relieve

any possible stress in the steel.



Heat the blade in the furnace to 750°C and hold for 30 minutes.

Allow the blade to cool

slowly inside the furnace to room temp.

That is stress relieving, it’s not quite a subcritical anneal. Surface oxides are normal at those temperatures, won’t hurt a thing.
