I have a large flat ground A2 bowie that I sent off to be heat treated and it came back one screwed up mess. There are places so hard you can't even scratch them and others are soft. I called and they said they did some places with a torch. The heat treaters name isn't important, it's been a while. I just found it in the back of one of my tool boxes. I just got an 18" Evenheat oven and I want to anneal this blade and re-heat treat it. Any advice is welcome. I need temp. and do I leave it in the oven to cool down? Thanks.

With a torch ???? As an air hardening steel it's easy to heat treat in a furnace , NO torch.Just follow Crucible's info.

They said they used an oven and warped it, so they heated it up with a torch in places and straightened it. That's where all the hard and soft spots came from, according to them. You can look at the metal and see the places they heated up. I wasn't a happy camper. But like I said, it happened a good while ago and I just chalked it off as a big screw up and I've kept the name to myself. Thanks for the help everybody. Tom
