annealing stainless steel?

We do this as a matter of course for the High Carbon steels we use...

We started cutting some 154-CM and wondered if this can be annealed as well?

My guess is yes, but we've never done it...Any ideas?

Thanks,

RD,
Per Crucible's Orange book.
154CM Annealing: Heat to 1650F, hold for 6 hours, cool slowly (25F/hour max) to 1200, then air cool.
OR
Heat to 1600F, hold for 2 hours, cool to 1300F, hold for 4 hours then air cool.
Typical annealed hardness is 235BHN.

Stress relieving annealed 154CM - Heat to 1200/1250, hold for 2 hours then cool in still air.

The Orange book is a most useful thing. Crucible gives them to knifemakers. Call Scott DeVanna at 800-365-1168 and ask him for one. It covers many steels.

Thanks, Kit that's just what I was looking for...Saves time and belts
