Well I just picked up a couple of anniversary knives, an A509BN, and an A156OT, and, feeling nostalgic, I strapped these babies into their carseats and took them to see where they were born:

This is a banner from the town of Wawarsing, where Ellenville and the Schrade factory reside. Schrade did a lot of special edition knives for the town, including anual Fourth of July knives and Christmas knives. Likewise for Ellenville.

Napanoch, another famous knife making town, only about a mile or two outside of Ellenville. Grahamsville, which was the home of the Grahamsville knifeworks, is about 8 miles northwest of town.

The original Schrade factory before they grew into Imperial Schrade, now housing Canal Street Cutlery:

Great thread Eric! I'd love to drive that route!
Kevlar seatbelts, eh??

Next time your in town, you had better stop by. You missed my homestead by about .5 mile.:) I'm glad to see someone else enjoying the area.

BTW: If I end having to pick you out of the gorge because you are looking for the secret remains of the old Napanoch factory there will be a price to pay. I'm thinking maybe one of the children you had out today.

Those 200th year anniversary banners are coming down I beleive at the end of October and are for sale $50.00 ea.
Not to pat myself on the back, but I suggested to the bicentennial commitee thay sell them and low and behold they are.
I do not have the contact info handy, but if anyone is interseted I will find out.
Dennis

Nice blades, the 156OT was one of my first Schrade knives. It makes me sad to see the weeds so tall around the old plant.

Yes the plant is really deserted. It's even more poignant when you see the actual size of the building. The number of workers out of jobs was staggering to the town, I'm not sure , 200-400 people total? You can probably add another 200 feet to this photo, couldn't fit it all in the frame. I'll definitely let you guys know next time I'm in town, might be in a couple of weeks:)

That'll do it!Took a little spin in your U2 today? You wouldn't by any chance be able to get a shot of that hidden Napanoch gorge, would you?
