PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Isaac George was pinned down in the control tower at Hickam Field, Hawaii, 68 years ago today, when the Japanese hurled the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that catapulted the United States into World War II.

"I saw the (USS) Arizona blow up," said George, 88, of New Castle. "They were strafing us. ... I think about it a lot."

Day-umm! You teh geezer :p

My Grandpa... 20th Armored Div, told me after Europe, He was slated as prt of the invasion force of Japan. Because of that history, I believe we were right to drop both bombs. We saved a potential of millions of lives. WE ended the war. I must thank Einstien and Oppenheimer and the other thousands of nameless Americans that brought that war to an end. If it wasn't for the atomic bomb on our behalf, many of us might never have been born:thumbup:

I saw that when I was 16... That was the highlight (to me) of a horrible week in HW.

I had never seen it from that perspective until recently. It kinda brings everything together for me.

A day of infamy...
Good post, Matt. Thanks.
There's a thread in the Busse forum but yours is the only other one I've seen today.

May we never forget.

Btw/ I live just a mile or two outside of New Castle but don't know Mr. George.
I should look him up or at least give him a call and thank him for his service.
I shall endeavor to do just that.

Thanks again, Matt.
