Hi Guys,

I've been feverishly searching the net to try to find a quality justification for a monster chopper to have a Full Height Flat grind instead of a Full Convex to Zero Edge grind. I haven't really found anything. I already saw some pics from another forum user that did some rough work to the edge of the SHBM after about 5 minutes. I've also read some users who say that the Convex edge grinds have more blade weight due to the geometry and are therefore better choppers. Online it also says that Convex edges are more durable. The only pro I can find about a Full Height Flat grind is that it's a "better cutter". I never intended my SHBM to be slicing Pumpkins. Someone please tell me something I want to hear haha! There has to be a good reason why Jerry chose a Full Height Flat grind instead of the other grinds. I just don't quite know what that reason is.

Mind you-- I know the SHBM is still a monster and is highly capable. So in short I am still superbly satisfied :)

Heres my take.....

I prefer all my flat ground blades over most all the others. Flat ground blades are generally more agile and versatile IMHO and they cut better.

The ASHBM is flat ground like the original SHBM...this might be the best answer:thumbup:

The fact that the ASHBM is 5/16 or .3125" allows more than enough steel for strength than what most will use it for. Plus with the excellent blade height gives plenty of depth for a great geometry.

Now I havent chopped anything more than air with my ASHBM but first impression is that its the best big blade Jerry has ever made. Yes this annoys me a little cause Jerry, Garth and crew did it again.

I thought the NMFSH LE was it. It was the most versatile IMO of any big blade in a long time. Now the ASHBM!

with its incredible balance and agility its the supreme big knife that is also very versatile and not just a dedicated chopper like most of the others.

Trevor,

I don't think you could have answered that better and you've restored my faith in my purchase. Now I'm gonna go rub some oil on my SHBM and apologize for questioning its dominance. That goes for you too Demonic1! Thanks guys.

Oh BTW Trevor the NMSFNO you sold me is beyond beautiful. A tad bit lacking in sharpness (which ill fix in no time), but out of control unique and gorgeous. If only I was able to post photos with my current level of membership :-/ . Either way, thank you man! Sorry it took so many emails to find the "right one". :)

Just an FYI, I never put oil on Infi, it's got enough hog grease running through its pores to last it a life time

Isn't it better to oil it occasionally as oppose to not? Then again I am somewhat new to INFI so feel free to educate me :-)

As far as I know you do not need to be a paying member to post pics. You just need to "host" them at a site like Photobucket.

As suggested, upload your photos to an image hosting site like photobucket. Use IMG BB-code in your thread. An example of this is "
". (without the quotes).

I'm just playing, oiling is a good preventative but Infi is as close to stainless as you can get without being stainless. I usually don't bother, just make sure they are dry, unless the conditions I'm in require it.

Alright,

I think I've figured this out! I'm going to attempt to post some pics. Definitely nothing exceptional -- i'm a newb. . . but I'm a newb with a Busse SHBM so be warned ;-p

How come I can't see the pictures I'm posting -- at the moment I see a little blue box with a question mark on it. When i right click on the blue box and open it in a new tab -- then it redirects to my photo bucket -- however i want it to show in the forum itself as an image. Any ideas fellas?

I prefer the FFG over a convex grind because it makes it a lighter blade that won't wear you out with extended use. It may not chop as well (marginally) but you won't gas out using it. That being said the ASHBM is my new favourite big chopper.
