I am proud to announce the appointment of Marc Fratello to the position of Busse Custom Shop Director. As many of you know, Marc manned the Busse table at the New York Custom Knife Show. His contagious enthusiasm has sparked an enormous amount of interest in Busse Custom Blades. Marc’s passion for fine custom knives coupled with an MBA from the prestigious Wharton School of Business make for the perfect combination of knife knowledge and grounded business practices. Look for a designated link on our website for the Busse Custom Shop. There will not only be several standard models such as the “Flying Tiger” and the integral “Bad Apple” but many one-of-a-kinds as well. We welcome Marc to Team Busse and are confident that he will bring many exciting ideas and direction to our custom line. If you have any ideas for custom models or any input as far as what you would like to see from the custom shop, please feel free to either post it here of give Marc a call at the Busse Shop at (419) 923-6471 and press 4 for the Custom Shop.

Welcome aboard Marc!

Jerry Busse

Thanks Jerry ! I am excited to be a part of Busse Combat and I think there are alot of great new ideas that we can bring to the table.

Everyone - feel free to email me or call me with your ideas, desires and thoughts regarding what you would like to see from a Busse custom perspective. It is my goal to help make them a reality. Jerry has promised me carte blanche to work on new ideas and designs that are guaranteed to bring a new dimension to Busse knives (and INFI!).

My email address is:

marc@bussecombat.com

Feel free to call or write and we can get started on your custom project.

Yours in NucleiCustoms!
Marc

I'm looking forward to seeing many new customs! No doubt there will be enough suggestions from here to keep you guys busy :D .

Like my suggestions for the anniversary knives (and the suggestions of several others) I suggest a large (12-14" blade), distally tapered, slightly recurved, heavy chopper/machete and a smaller, thinner (at most 3/16") knife, with perhaps about a 4-5" blade. Only, I hope they become regular combat grade knives... Regardless, they would also make great customs, IMHO.

From what I hear, Marc's a great guy :) . I hope he will join us for some nuclear discussions here, at least every once in a while.

Count on me being a more regular contributor to this forum, Andrew !

I like your ideas already - let's talk! Marc

Great News, looking for some exciting new designs.

I still have to pick up one of those Flying Tigers though ;)

I was thinking something like a folding Steel Heart!!!
HEHEHEHEHE

You are sooooooo lucky.

DarkJedi2 - May the INFI be with you.

Congrats on the new position !!! Count on a lot of business, best of luck :)

Now, about my wishlist.... :D

p.s. - On a serious note, can we get Jerry to make an INFI pizza cutter? I'm going to scream if I have to buy another one :) So come one, who else would buy one?

Who will be making these Customs?
Jerry or a production line of your regular people?
If so, how are they customs?

One Who Buys,

Good question! You must be enjoying a visit from our friend Sammy, or one of his buddies, Jose, Jim, or Jack. Of course, the lucidity of your question points to only one possible inspiration. . . MABEL !
Didn't know she travelled as far west as Illinois but I'm glad to see she made it.

As for your question, there will be two different grades of customs coming from our shop. "SOME", not all, of the Standard Custom Models will be worked on by some of our apprentices and some of our master bladesmiths. I will be working on all of these knives but may not be doing "all" of the work myself. These knives will be completely hand-ground, polished, fitted, handled, shaped, and sharpened by hand. There will also be a sole-authorship, "Signature Grade", meaning that "all" of the work on the knife has been done by me, personally. Unfortunately, since my hand was blown to pieces, I am not able to make as many knives as I used to, as it now takes me much longer to do some of the operations involved. The signature series will be priced higher than the customs that have shared authorship.

I hope this clarifies any questions of authorship.

We're looking forward to many exciting new models,

Jerry Busse

1whobuys -

Certain Customs will be identified as sole authorship (known as Signature Grade) pieces by Jerry Busse. They will be labeled as such and be very rare.

The goal of the custom shop will be to push the edge of the envelope with regard to new designs and will be unique because of their being:

- made by Jerry B. and labeled as such
- made with best darn knife steel in the world - INFI

I am a part of Busse Combat. What will change from the past is now there will be someone to help design your special project and shepherd it through completion. Certain pieces will be made into limited runs - but they will be "Standard Custom Models" which will be worked on by some of our apprentices and some of our master bladesmiths. Jerry will work on these knives but may not be doing "all" of the work. These knives will be completely hand-made by Jerry and the people in the shop.

Jerry's Signature Series will be very limited and more expensive. His past injury will make these pieces even more limited than before. But they will probably become more valuable as a result of their scarcity and uniqueness.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Marc (marc@bussecombat.com)

Marc,

Now that's what I like to see. Already posting at 5:00 AM. I sense a knifemaker in the making. Looks like we posted at the same time.

Jerry

Jerry & Marc --

Heartiest congratulations to you both. It's hard to imagine a better fit than Marc in an oversight role at Busse Combat's Custom Shop. His broad knowledge of custom knives, together with his thoughtful, intelligent way with people, make for just the right interface with seasoned knife customers, IMO.

Now about that big INFI machete...may I be the first to offer an entry in the naming contest:

"The Contender"

Best to all,
Will

Good show. My website dude's a recent Wharton Executive MBA grad and is worth about 10,000 times his weight in gold. If it's OK, I'll blame the arrival of The Flying Tiger on Marc if my wife sees the credit card statement.

I always said that Will was a brilliant guy - now I know he is also very creative ! What a great name - The Contender - whaddya think Jerry !?!?!

As for you Anklepocket, I just hope that the Busse loyal feel the same way about my contribution as you do about your guy. (frankly, 1,000 times my weight in gold would be more than enough accolades! :) )

Congrats Marc.

I guess we haven't talked in a while. Wow

This means I have a friend on the inside now.

COOL

Talk to you later and good luck.

Phil
