Annual Line Up?

How about an annual Usual Suspect Line Up. In other words how about creating an annual meeting of sorts. This could coincide with a major knife show for ease of attendance. It could be adjoining room where we all meet and show off our knives, swap stories, invite a particular photographer to cover it and then eat a mess of food. Heck we might even be lucky enough to drag Ernie into the room to give us a quick run down on new projects. Could be cool huh?

Hi Ark,
Welcome back. I love the idea. It happened on an informal basis last November at the New York show. If we formalized it with a specific time and place we would probably have a much larger attendance. This year, those of in attendance met by chance at Ernie's table. Sure would be fun if everybody brought their collections. One thing though...let's be certain that it does not conflict with the drawing!

Arrange it far enough in advance and I'd even come over from the UK !

What about blade in Atlanta ?

I'd like to see us meet in Atlanta this year as I already have plans to attend and tickets purchased. I also know that JH is planning on being in Atlanta.

Now if I could just score some passes for the show I'd be set!

But bring ALL our collections? Man, that's some serious cutlery! How about if I take requests for just a few "serious" pieces? Or maybe just all "Pre-Tacs"? Jackstraw you down with that? I've got a feeling though I'm going to be one of the few without any tattoos to show off!

Sniper,
No problem...if I can make it I won't have tattoos to show off either. On the other hand, hmmmmm, a nice pre-tac tattoo? Never been to the Blade show. It would be fun....

Atlanta would be great!

Its my first big knife show, and it would be nice to put a face with some of the names that have gotten me addicted to custom Emersons.

I just ask that John or Don bring a digital camera, I would love to get a pictuer of my fledling custom collection in the Custom Gallery (its much easier for me to spend money on custom knives then a good quality digital camera, and with Atlanta coming up, I guess you know what I'm saving money for)!!

So when is the Atlanta show ?

I've never been to a Blade show in the US before, so this sounds like a good reason for a vacation !

The Blade Show is June 8, 9 and 10.

I will be there with bells on (so to speak), camera in hand.

DavidT said he was going to try and make it.

There is already a "Suspect Lunch" planned for after the lottery at Ruby Tuesdays, downstairs from the show. Last year they had the best Iced Tea I've had in years.

I'll bring my ES1-M, CM-1, Damascus Commander, ect. for the "Show & Tell" portion of the meet.

I have almost no interest in the show exept for the lottery. Never having been in Atlanta though...

Definitely count me in-although I am rather new at this it would be nice to "learn" from all y'all.
One thing, how does one go about getting tickets for this?
thanks in advance,

Derek, tickets can be purchased at the door. Keep your eyes peeled here on BF.com, a couple of weeks prior to the show there are usually some free tickets available for the asking as well.

Hope to see you there.

John

Rats I've been out of work since November and starting in April I go back to school, I guess that leaves me out

I'm there. Can't wait to have some Brunswick Stew and cornbread!

QUESTION: How does one go about getting a bunch of knives from point A to point B without being stopped by those quiet "professionals" that staff our nation's airport security checks?
BTW, I can't help but think of the Himalayan Airport security scene in Eddie Murphy's Golden Child every time I pass through an airport check.

your best option would be to pack them and wrap them in dirty underwear! I think with firearms you have to tell them it is packed then they put a sticker on your bags saying something like "free guns inside this bag" or something. unless you are going through customs, you bag will probably be untouched.
then again, as soon as I say this, they will be ransacked.
I guess you could always ship your collection to a buddy who is driving to the show-sure it would be a pain, might cost $30, but that is peace of mind...
cheers,

I fly with guns all the time. They put a small orange slip of paper inside your luggage and don't put any indication of the bags contents on the outside (haven't for years now)

I could tell you airport/luggage stories . . .

Ark, pack the knives in your luggage (I use a huge Pelican case for luggage). Insure the bag/box for the full amount of the knives (the more insurance the better). One little tip is that the last time I insured a case for $5K, they not only had a very nice young man come to the counter and carry the box to the plane, but another nice gentleman walked it out to me at my destination. He even helped me load it in the cab.

I've only had my luggage lost once (in Phoenix) and with a little . . . "motivation", I had my bag in twenty minutes.

Hope to see ya' there.

John
