Just got registered to yak with you guys. I would like to thank Chuck Gollnick for his reveiw, and all the information he had on the 42 when it seemed like no one knew a thing about it. Now to my question. About how long does it take for the anodization to wear of during normal use of the 42a, such as normal carry in the pocket and manipulation. If it only lasts a month I might as well get a regular 42 and not worry about babying it, becuase it will be used on a daily basis.

I would almost bet that in daily use you would see shine on the high spots in a week or so and most of it would be gone in a couple of months........I don't have experience with a 42A but several knives of the spring-loaded variety that I carry on a semi-regular basis show 'smooth' spots on the edges, pocket-clip, etc......You could be one of the first to find out!!!

The anodization is only "skin deep" about one millionth of a one centimeter deep. No, I am not exagerating. That's what it is.

One source I have consulted says, "The extreme thinness of the oxide dictates that it is not a good wearing surface...." "An anodized Titanium bracelet worn continuously for as little as three weeks will appear scratched and discolored."

That's disappointing, I really wanted to get one as an occasional user. The pictures I've seen look really good.

I know for a fact that Smith and Wesson had to do some type of surface treatment on their titanium cylinder revolvers in .38 special(model 342). They caution cleaning the cyclinder with hard scrubbing while using a wire brush. One should just wipe the cylinder and use nylon brushes. The Taurus titanium revolvers at least have a lifetime warranty, they need it. One of the toughest surface treatments that I know of is on the Glocks. I don't know if their tennifer surface hardening treatment will work on titanium though.
