Hey everyone, So I’m starting to do some Ti anodizing luckily I have plenty of scrap pieces of grade 5. I’ve been experimenting with finishes and what colors work good with certain textures. My process is finish Ti to desired texture, clean/degrease in simple green, rinse in distilled water, dunk in multi-etch for 5-7 seconds, rinse and then anodize in TSP and distilled water solution. My questions are should I be using a dedicated wire wheel just for Ti to get orange peel because it seems to cross contaminate and have brown spots everywhere after anodizing? How often should anodize solution be changed? Any other tips are appreciated.

I'll defer to those who have more experience with this, but I will share my experience.

I came across this issue too and had this same question, and was told NOT to use a wire wheel because this will contaminate the Ti. I ended up using sandpaper and some dremel grinding bits to get into the nooks and crannies.
Also, I learned that the smoother the polish, the more colors you can get at the higher voltages. I was unable to get the bright green that 100V is supposed to produce.
Here's a link to what I did with pics: https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/63399-anodizing-titanium-question/
