Anodizing: Nail Polish on Detent Ball?

My anodizing equipment just came in, so I'm just about ready to go, but I've never anodized before. I've read online that you need to put nail polish remover on the detent ball before anodizing, because you don't want the ball itself anodized. Can someone give me more specific direction than this? These are my questions:
  1. Do you heavily coat the ball, or just lightly coat it?
  2. Do you wait for the nail polish remover to dry?
  3. When do you apply the nail polish remover? Before dipping in the whink to remove previous ano, or after?
  4. When you're done, do you remove the nail polish remover, or does it come off naturally through use?
  5. If you need to actually remove the nail polish remover, how do you do that?
  6. Is there anything else I need to know about this?
  7. Bonus question: Do I have to mask the steel lockbar insert?

Take it all apart including the insert. The nail polish needs to dry. Acetone to remove it.

Really agree with Mo2. Also, before anodizing you should wash titanium in a degreaser. I use simple green in a cheap ultra sonic cleaner. Then I rinse in DI water before putting in electrolyte solution for anodizing

  1. For anodizing titanium, one coat of nail polish (not nail polish remover) is good.
  2. Yes, wait till it dries.
  3. Coat parts before etching. It's a protection layer.
  4. Remove nail polish with nail polish remover. (painting grade acetone is basically the same)
  5. See #4.
  6. Yes. Youtube.
  7. Remove lock bar insert before doing any ano or etching. (If applicable, see Shiro Neon.)

Thanks for answering all the questions, man. I appreciate it.
