Four year old can do it. My oldest decided that she really wanted to help me in the shop, so I set her to anodizing skulls for my reaper sinnets. In about 10 minutes she had learned how to set the voltages and how to read the meters. She did some skulls in electric blue, bright green, pink and purple. After about 50 skulls she was all upset becuase she ran out and had to stop.

So if any of you have been intemidated by anodizing titanium, just see how simple it is.

I think My problem is I'm way older than 4
this new anodizer I built has me buffaloed ?

I was using a 1 gal jar and getting an array of colors
but not uniform at any voltage, so it was recommended that I go to
a smaller jar so I went to under a quart added more TSP
now I don't get hardly any color???
I can put so much voltage in.. that it turns my
ss connector rods red hot and blows a 15 amp breaker
it heats water great, HOT.. any Ideas

Ron, you just wanted an excuse to post a picture of that BEAUTIFUL daughter of yours! ;) Don't blame you though, she sure is a cutie.

On the other hand, I wil feel sorry for you in about ten years when she decides boys don't have cooties anymore :)

Hehe that is one little cutie! I remember my son when he was that age. I also remember when he turned 13 and thought he was too smart for me. He wouldn't change into jeans when I asked him to help me in the forge and got some hot scale on his leg. He listened to his old man after that!

SHOP ELVES AT WORK!!!

She's a cutie and what a great smile. My 5yo shop elf helps by rubbing 1000x blades with 120x zirc. :(

Shop Elves!

Wow what a treat to have a daughter like that.

I'm sure the titanium is nice too, but that's not nearly as special.

Graymaker,

That seems odd, so I'll ask a weird question. Is your discharge voltage AC or DC?

I built my own anodizer but my rheostat was ac so I had to install a 6 amp full bridge DC rectifier to convert the currant to DC.

Hey Art
the variac is AC O to 140
and I wired up a 25 amp diode bridge DC rectifier from there..
I am getting DC
can you tell me how much TSP mix your using per amount of water?
and how fast the color should show up.

Graymaker,

I use about a tablespoon of TSP in a quart jar. It only takes maybe 20 sec to get my color. My variac is graduated from 0-100 I assume that that means 0-100 % as I had no info on this variac when it was given to me. I never get much above about 20 on the scale anything higher and it just makes it look grey.

I should have said variac instead of rheostat in my previous post.

Art
I think you hit it on the head
I may be way over color because these are greyish now.
I'll refinish them or throw an other set in
and try again ..Thanks
