Anopene finish

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light about what exactly it is. I remember Mike Turber mentioning that it was a coating that adds to rust resistance. I think. But it seems to either attract dust like crazy or flake off . . . And is this supposed to be standard on all the SOCOM Elites, or did MT just decide to experiment on their first bunch?

I think they are testing it for now. It is more like a stonewash finish than anything else. I don't see how it could flake as it is my understanding that stonewash is not realy a coating but more of a finish. It would be like saying that your bead blasted knife is flaking.

The blades are first stonewashed and then a light beadblast over that to create what Microtech calls the Anopeen finish. The stonewash closes the pores on the steel to make it more corrosion resistant and then the light bead blast makes it a more uniform finish. Looks great in person, can't come off.

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty sure that the reason it looks like it's flaking off is because of the way light reflects off of it. That or I've been leaving it in the dustier areas of my desktop
