Was the anorexic version of the Assault Shaker ever offered? I have read on The Busse Collector that it was released in 2007, but have also read on this forum that it still wasn't out in 2011. What's the go? Did they release the thin version? I want one.

I always thought the rat version was better. Being a small knife the talon hole just got in the way on the AS.

I think the closest thing to the anorexic Assualt Shaker was the Pepper Shaker, but I don't think it's that much thinner.

Long rumored, but I don't think it's ever been released.

It was supposed to have been released along with the Scotch Dispenser around June/July of 2007. However, it was pulled at the last minute and we never heard about it again... I still has a sad. :( ...But at least I found a PS. ;)

The AAS was slated to be 3/16" vs. 1/4" for the regular AS. My Pepper Shaker is just a bit more than 3/16" thick...the difference would probably be the thickness of the coating.

Thanks guys. I'm looking for a utility knife for horizontal belt carry. The Assault Shaker might be it. Is the only difference between the Assault Shaker and the Pepper Shaker the swedge?

Chris.

No.
Pepper Shaker- All were custom, hand ground by Jerry himself...hollow ground, BAT (Busse Armor Tip) & swedge, approx 3/16" thick (Rumors that a few were approx. 1/4" thick as well).
Assault Shaker, flat ground, 1/4" thick.

Here's what a Pepper Shaker looks like under the coating (This one looks like one of the quarter inchers!)...

Jerry's pic. :)

Thanks for the info Jaxx. The swedge on the naked one looks sharp, but yours looks a bit like a false edge. Was it different depending on what Jerry did at the time? What did you want for yours? :D

Chris.

Not sure if any are actually sharpened...I've never seen one without a coating in person. Mine was a lucky fluke win from an eBay auction in Nov. '11 that was listed as a slightly used Assault Shaker with fairly dark pix. I got lucky enough to spot the difference with enough time to do some research on them...and thanxx to M67's cat ;) (He also noticed the difference and was bidding, but his cat distracted him in the final seconds), I got it at a good price...considerably less than what they went for in 2002. Because of PA's knife laws, I prefer it to be a false edge, because if it were sharp then it would be considered a double edge knife and I couldn't carry it here. :)

That bastard cat still owes me for that one :grumpy:

You ever going to send that thing in to get bead blasted?

If you can get a standard AS, I'd suggest to snag it. I've worn my often over the years and it's like it's not even there. Pardon the crotch shot but gives you an idea with a small tek-lok :):o:p

Thanks for the shot, KnifeAddict. Exactly what I needed to see for how it might sit. I wondered how the handle would rest, with that ergo style droop to it. That kydex sheath looks good too. I'd want to be able to change it to a necker, like that one can, if it wasn't concealed properly under a shirt. I'd normally carry a folder and wouldn't require something like this but a situation has come up where I might not be able to carry a folder. It's hard finding a truly concealable carry Busse.

Chris.

I don't think you'd have any trouble carrying a AS like that. I've even carried a BAD like that, and a GW should work as well.

I am as big a fan of the thinner Busses as anyone, but it seems to me that the Assault Shaker might be an exception. The thinner the bare handle tang, the more uncomfortable it seems the grip would be.

I didn't mic these yet, they were kinda on edge when I took this....

Will try to get to in a couple days to see the spread of thicknesses.

Here they are basking in the sunshine, calmed down...

You KNOW how they get.

Glad I could help and it's really comfortable. You can move and bend without any problems and I actually prefer it to neck carry as when I lean forward, the print is obvious that something is under my shirt :)

My hair got a bit messed up with the "you suck" factor of those Mike. Great knives as always :D

When are you going to bring those to show and tell Mike?
