Another 110 Auto ??

I have a whole bunch of questions about this one that arrived a few days ago. It is a single action done by Cumberland Mountain Knife and Tool, who I know does, or used to do 110/112 conversions.

But there are a huge amount of questions that this one has me puzzled about. The Buck U.S.A. is more of a print, or very light etch and it is off center toward the spine. Did Buck do lite offset etching?

Then, the back of the blade has this stamp. Did Buck do that stamping?

Then, as I cleaned it up, I could see a hairline seam between the liner and bolsters on each end. I thought the liners and bolsters were all one piece?? Note that this high res pic amplifies those lines, and that they are barely visible unless closely inspecting.

And on top of all of that, the sheath has a B in a double circle with no Buck on the snap. This sheath is a seriously higher quality sheath than I believe I have on any other Buck sheath.

In all appearances, except for the slot screws where they made the auto conversion, it looks like a 110. But with all the other differences, I wonder if it is a counterfit ?

That would be my guess. There are some people out there that are getting real good at knock offs, and they don't worry about patent laws ;)

I dont think Buck would have ever used the 440 stamp on the back of the blade. Good luck I'm no expert ;)

I hope you didn't pay more than $49.95 for it... :D

It's interesting...A real collector's piece...for $49.95... ;)

Is that Cumberlands etch on the blade? Or is it a close rendition?
Do you have another to compare?

...Here's a link to a similar situation a couple of years ago with a very brief description of the knife...Gotta be so darn careful these days...:grumpy:

Packrat: I know nothing of bucks as far as spotting copys, But I have learned about Al Mars the hard way, routinely watch unknowings buy 300$ to 800$ Al Mars with the same slight differences that you have posted, they were made in the same factories as the originals in seki at lunch time 30 yrs after their production had ceased, I have collected A/M's ruthlessly for the last few years, have lost my desire due to the fact that, in my eyes my authentic collections value is being ruined by these copies, I have to spend too much time being leary of what I buy and individuals reputations, and in the Almorite leagues there are many great collector's and great people to deal with! We have had hacks here on Bladeforumns recently, Maybe I contacted the wrong or unknowing people but I did not know how else to stop other blade members from being had, My recent posts posed questions that made (in my opinon a shady seller nervous to the point of ending sale posts for knives that i know to be bootleg) If you have been had, keep that blade in your collection as a knife that has taught you a lesson, I have some of the nicests lessons a A/M collector could have Thank god they are a very small part of my collection, I could sell them without getting hassled as I bought them as a educated buyer, But the lessons I have learned through them will last me through my time here, And peices that Al Mar and Bob Valade never dreamed of are good conversation peices, from a large collection standpoint! Not to mention VERY rare And Expensive, I thank god that I am Honest as I could sell these RARITIES In a blink for big money due to Inexperianced GREED! I gave up on my A/M collection which is unrivaled to my knowledge, to my wifes knowledge of what a large house with a stream through the front on 10 acres in northern fairfeild county Ct. where a 1/8 acre with a 1 car garage sells for about 200,000.00, have a bunch of safes full of knives that are or were our investment, Worth more than our house! Welcome to buying busse blades where I am too new to know a fake , and have never heard the word knockoff! Life brings us experiance what we choose to learn from it separates us from the unintelligent! Maybe this is a rant and not a response but a smart person learns from his or her mistakes! Smart people can be had due to greed! Happy New year to everyone at Bladeforumns!! John

Yup Trax, I paid more than that for it. But I figure I will get about as much entertainment value out of it as I do most any other knife.

As far as the Cumberland etch, its the only one I have seen. So I guess anyone could have etched Cumberland on it as well as the Buck USA.

Except for having slight blade play, it looks and feels like any 110. The wood looks like the wood on my dot and predot 110's.

There wasn't a pic of the 440 Stainless stamp. and no, I didn't ask.

From the full auto aspect, it is way cheaper than I have paid for others. I can see why.

And this sheath,,,I wonder why if someone was counterfiting one, why they would put this quality sheath on it instead of some cheapo..

Just another mystique in the world of bidding on auction knives.

Thanks for that bit of insite John, but I am not at all concerned that I got ripped off. Was worth nothing more than a nice dinner out for the wife and I. and I did suspect as much because of no other bids.

I appreciate you trying to forewarn others as to fakes. There have been times here that we try and do the same thing. Didn't happen this time, but, I may have well bid on it anyway as it really is an interesting piece and maybe it won't get in a fight with the other autos I have. (real Bucks)

I believe some of the moderators here being overly zealous when an auction is mentioned has dampened the spirit of helping out the knife brothers, for fear of getting a slap on the fingers, but maybe I am wrong there also.

Anywho knifeknuts, I am absolutely not in any distress about this one. Hope you all have enjoyed the pics and checking it out.

One thing does make me wonder tho. If BKI does communicate with Cumberland or others when some of these fakes do show up.

At least my other autos appear to be genuine Buck. Maybe they need to appear in the "what is on your desk thread". Haven't fondeled them in a while.

ooops...forgot that Darryl is "coveting (transit verb1)" a dual action...:D so maybe I better not post pics..:D

well here on this issue ..
i can say with out any miss giveings
it is totaly fake as well as the cumberland etch is a knock off.
some one is realy putting these out a lot lately
i seen several of these for sale in ohio show
as much as 200 for one..
there are dealers that have the real thing
if it sounds to good to be true ya better look real hard and
get name and address and dirvers lisence number...

And this sheath,,,I wonder why if someone was counterfiting one, why they would put this quality sheath on it instead of some cheapo...

Maybe the seller didnt know it was a knockoff? The sheath looks like it would be nice for use! Or maybe the nicer sheaths seal the deal ;)
We may never know!
