I started up another .360 Chopper a couple of days ago and here is where I'm at. It is pre heat treat with lots of work to go.

This is going to a fellow knifemaker and bladeforums member! I'm going to do some layered G10 scales... it's going to be cool!

.360 thick 5160 Steel

Looks pretty cool! So that's pretty much a hollow grind chisel edge? At that thickness, it should chop like a beast!

Time for a double temper.

I got a quick photo this morning, it blends in with the petrified wood stump.

What's the thickness of the tang, it looks thinner than the spine. I could also be mistaken, it just looks like the tang is not touching the stump.

Looks very cool by the way!

where did you get your 5160 that thick? do you have any scraps (like 1 or 2 inches by 1/2 inch) you'd like to sell? I want to make a mini of my last integral but finding stock the right thickness has been tough...

Thanks! It is an even thickness, no tapered tang on this one. The shadows make it hard to tell and the stump is curved... a rare green toned petrified wood round I found. :D

You should enter the Mini KITH, check the stickies over at shoptalk. :D An integral sounds nice.

Mcmaster-Carr has the thick stock. I have some pieces I can send you, I sent you an e-mail.

That looks awesome! So, it won't warp during heat treating with the chisel grind?

I always thought that the grind had to be even on both sides before heat treating the blade.

Thanks!

I don't have any warpage and almost all I make is chisel ground knives. I ground one too thin recently as an experiment and got a wavy blade but it was with 1095 hollow ground almost to a sharpened edge. I did expect it to happen but I wanted to see how thin I could go before heat treat.

Looking good!

What size wheel did you use? The hollow looks great at that thickness.

I just finished everything up this morning.

Check it out!

Differentially hardened .360 5160 Steel - 3 color MCAM scales - Stainless hardware - OD/GID Lanyard - Kydex Sheath

You can shave hair with it! This knife also works for chopping stuff or just scaring it into splinters. :D
