Another Adamas 275 thread: Is it really to thick to carry?

I could have posted this in one of the existing threads but I didn't think it would get much notice. This is a question that I have heard asked/stated as being a negative for the carry of this knife, mainly pocket carry. I took some pictures that I will post as I go along. Some of the measurements are as follows; thickest point of the handle (middle) .75".

As you can tell, the knife handle begins to taper down towards both ends, giving it a very comfortable feel in hand, at least in my hand I know for sure. Here's the front of the handle, which measures .62";

And here is the rear of the handle at .64";

Not sure if you can see it, photo's are sorta blurry, but the edges of the handle are formed at ~45 degree angle, thus doing away with the sharp edges that some larger knives could possess. This has been done all the way around the handles and adds to the comfort of holding/using this knife. There are knives that come along every so often that simply speak to me on a different level than others, and as long as I have used/collected knives there are only a handful of knives, that for me, fit in this class, with the Adamas being one.

I hope this has shed a little light on the question of the Adamas being a thick, and blocky knife. I also know that the measurements as given will still be much too thick for what some folks are looking for in a carry knife. This post is mainly geared towards those people who may be on the fence about buying one and who may be thinking it is too thick to carry comfortably.:thumbup::)

Thin knives are good for carrying. A lot of people worry a lot about "printing." A thin knife is not great for comfort when using. I like a chunky knife, and this one looks like it would be a pleasure to use. But, I think your measurements are off by ~10x. I would hate to have to use a knife with a 0.075" thick handle...

Oh man, as would I!!:o

Looks like some corrections are in order!

And made.:thumbup::)

Thanks for the head's up!

Yes the Adamas is thicker and heavier than say my Spydy Para 2 but it is much lighter than my Rajah 2.
I live in Florida and usually wear cargo shorts during my off hours. All these knives disappear in my pocket. You can feel the Adamas and Rajah 2 in there for sure but I dont find it problematic, I also cary a Glock 26 with no problem either. If you wear thick denim and a loose shirt outside of your waistband, these knives and gun will not print.
The Adamas is one of my favorites. The weight to it feels like it will give a wicked snap cut. The thick D2 steel should hold up to puncturing clothing/flesh. This looks like one mean SOB of a knife. It also came extremely sharp. I can push cut magazine paper with ease, which is pretty good for a thick folder. I wonder how well it would do after a little stropping.

Also, I wish Benchmade made the Adamas in a "true" stainless like CPM-S30v or M390. I would like to see this design offered in different steels like the Para 2 or Zt 0350. I would get an "upgraded" steel version of this knife for sure. Elmax anyone?

I think the Adamas is a perfect candidate for CPM M4. I imagine Benchmade and Knifeworks do to.

M4 would be awesome, and so would m390, to match Siberts mpr. If they made that i would mail BM a blank check

Thanks for putting the time into the good pics and measurements. I personally find it quite easy to carry

Not on my end, unless I can hold it and snap the picture with my other hand. Let me try that......back in a few!

The best I can do.:)

I think its all up to you. Tomorrow ill be getting my Adamas delivered & will be carrying it. Currently i carry a ZT301 & ive saw were alot of people say the ZT is to heavy for an EDC but to me its no problem. I dont even notice the weight. I honestly like a heavier knife just feels better built. So if you dont think the Adamas is to thick then its not. Just use what you like & feel comfortable carrying

Correct me if im wrong, but dosent the Adamas come with a good cordura belt-sheath? If youre already allowed to carry a knife of that size, why not belt-carry? Its by far the most comfortable way to carry a big folder.

Not as far as I'm concerned :D My folders go in my jacket pocket. I don't notice much in there and it's easy to get them in and out.

UPS just delivered my Adamas knife. As fas as thickness its actually slimmer than my ZT301. its also slightly lighter. I got the Automatic version & its fastest opening knife i own! Even faster than my Kershaw Blur! Dont know if the same is true for the regular Adamas. But this knife is well built. Another thing i liked about it iis it not only had pocket clip which can be swiched from either side but also had a belt sheath in case you wanted to carry it that way.

If you're going to carry it in a sheath....why resort to a folder at all? Go fixed blade. =]

I find most benchmades too thin for my taste, the Adamas is what I think benchmade should be.
