There seems to be quite alot of Alpha activity in this forum at the moment which is great as i really like them , i dont like useing mine too much in case it gets marked and scratched so i though what the hell i will buy another to keep as new .I managed to get a new in box one with 'Last production year, El Cajon Ca.' etched on the blade and its ATS-34 with Rosewood  ( should be with me in the next couple of days :D ) . Now i know the ones with etching on the blade are not rare but this is the first one ive seen available in the UK and i really wanted it . Has anyone got any pics or other info on the Alpha 'Last production year, El Cajon Ca.' Some pictures would be really good to drool over till it gets here :D

Well, darn. Here I was, trying to be helpful and upload Goose's photo, so that I could show it in this thread, and he beat me to it! ;)

Yes, the link worked for me. And I discovered the marvelous reason that he's called "Goose"...well, maybe. ;)

Is the finish the same on all of those knives? Its hard to tell if its just the wya the light is hitting it. Beautiful collection by the way....

Thanks Kunegos...
The top two are rosewood ATS-34 277 Alphas and the bottom is a 420 steel with walnut 279.
Wish the rosewoods were a closer match in color/grain...but oh well.
Think the walnut was just done for a bit (can someone confirm years?) as now the new issue 279 Alpha is rubber handled.
Kind Regards,
Goose.

 ...Beautiful knives Goose...I'd give my left "noobie" fer a 277...just out of the budget at this time. Maybe I'll look fer an Ebay "sleeper"...Nice group of Bucks...

Thanks DarrylS...

I really like the Alpha folders. The walnut one is the wobbler. Am thinking of sending it in to be tightened.

Would like to get a rubber handled 277 to remove the handles and turn into a skeletor but first I would upgrade the steel.

I need to win the lotto :(

Well my new Alpha came today , i just love the etching on the blade :D Now i want an Idaho first run  I've noticed the handles are a little different then on my 2002 model , lighter in colour with sharper angles on it , also the liner lock locks a bit further over than my 2002 . Can someone tell me what the code on the box means ? the last year production run has B277-LSP-0 and the older 2002 model has B277-00-0 on it , just curious .
But the real good news is i can use my older Alpha like it should be and still knowing i have a mint one tucked away ;)

Dunc,
I'm far from being any kind of expert, but I think the second set of letter, in your case LSP descibes any unique aspects of the knife. In your case, LSP would be for last Production. I have a 500 Duke that has the letter IB after the 500 (500-IB-00) the IB stands for Impala Bone, which describes the material used on the scales.

Interesting...I just got in a Nickel Silver bolstered 110 with charcoal colored scales...B110-SP57-0 is the box number...(08-12-05, Idaho tang)...

Any guess what that all means???

Trax,

The B110-SP57-0 is the catalog number assigned the your special project 110. The SP means special project.

I remember when there were only about 20 numbers to keep track of....

Color changes on the wood should be minimized but will happen. It is a birch plywood that they put into a vaccum chamber. They then flood the chamber with dyed resin and can make it any color. You will get some color variation with each batch and depending on the wood, which is a natural substance, you get resin impregnation variances as well.

All in all it is a very good material as you get the natural variability of wood with the water proofing, wear enhancing, non shrinkage/non cracking of resin.

Originally we introduced wood handled alphas in the rosewood with ATS-34 blades and the rubber handles with 420HC blades. The brown wood was another choice...a wood handled 420HC alpha.

The brown will not show up in our normal line anymore but we will use it for special customization projects...off top of mind not sure if any are happening right now.

Thank you, John! ;)

But what is so special about Nickel Silver bolsters and charcoal scales??? I would have thunk [Ha! Take that, Mrs. Wustrack! :D] that it was a regular production option, like leather seats on your Corvette...

Well, I am glad I came on board with this forum. Was thinking of using the ligther one in the pic above for a donor or some other project (skeletor?).
I'll find a rubber one.
Thanks for the post...
Goose.

:D :D ...Hey RODENT...yer gonna have to give me some advice on Alpha's pretty soon...I just ordered my first one. It's only the second linerlock I've ever owned so I'm sure I'll have a few questions...Do your's lockup nice and tight with no wobble???...Not at all sure what I'll find or what I should expect when it arrives...:p  :D

Well the lockup should be solid but if not you could always adjust the pivot screw a little but you shouldnt have to do this and Alphas should open really easily infact if you hold the liner lock against the side the blade should fall shut with no resistance . I have found them to be one of the smoothest openers on the market and a very fine folder , very fat in the hand for people who like a very fat in the hand knife ;) I prefer them over a 110  and in a ATS-34 blade format they are the biz although i think the newer ones are 154cm
