Hello all,
How does the Basic 7 balance? I happen to own a "rubber-" handled knife with a 7.5" blade by a company whose name I dare not speak (get the Def-Con!), and was wondering how the Basic 7 would compare. Is it significantly blade-heavy?

Thanks,
Jeremy

The Basic 7 is significantly blade heavy (forgot to measure the CoB on mine), generating a lot of power on the swing.

Not quite so much as the other knife mentioned, however, as the basic isn't as wide and has a full-flat main grind. Basics are quite worthy tools, however.

I have a 5 and 9 and would like to complete my collection. They are awsome hard use knives my 5 is an EDC. and never fails me :D

I thought your Basic 7 became a Basic 5 3/8 awhile back. Did ya get a new one? LOL

I had all the Basics at one time, but the only 2 left are the 5 and the 3. I liked my Swamp version of the 7" better and so kept it. There are some Basics on the exchange at the moment. Bill (KX1A) has some for sale, but what is telling is there is not a Basic 5 offered. To me, the 5 is the King of the Basics and seems to be the one people hold on to and is least often seen. I had 2, so one now lives in Tejas.

If you find a good deal on a 7 by all means pick up on it. Then you can do a head to head between it and the CT and beat the snot out of both of them.

BAsic #5's need a lot of loving :D
You remember this one Rob? ;)

Now THAT'S what they are supposed to look like! Yes, I remember that beauty very well. We had a time with that one eh?

Just checked a BB7 and it balanced for me right on the ricasso flat - about 1/2" in front of the terminus of the handle rubber. HTH.

FWIW the Swamp Rat CT balanced at about 1" in front of the handle. However, the CT is heavier overall. Its overall weight was 15 oz vs about 12 oz for the BB7, according to my unscientific kitchen scale. To my hand the CT feels more blade-heavy than the Basic 7.

Thanks everyone, your replies were very helpful :) . Of course, KX1A's Basic 7 sold before I could nab it, but there's always next time. It sounds like a knife worth owning (I love the Basic 9, so might as well get a 7 :) ). I found the CT shockingly blade heavy the first few times I handled it, much more so than the BR or Basic 9, so it's good to hear the 7 is a little more neutrally balanced.
