Alaska is full of all kinds of interesting characters who become a little acentric after spending time in the bush. One of the things that I like most about Alaska is its live and let live attitude. Leave a person alone until his activities harm others. This guy who is profiled in an article in the Anchorage paper has spent years conditioning bears to become tame by feeding them I believe he has crossed that line. I am sure the authorities will have to put a stop to his bear feeding after this publicity.

I believe he has crossed that line.
Absolutely. By allowing the bears to get food, they now associate humans with dinner time. That jackass has placed an unknown number of people (and bears) in serious danger. IMO he needs a beating.

How unfortunate that there is no law against sheer stupidity. I wonder how many bears will be killed because of his actions, or people hurt...or worse. A real *moron that guy is, in every sense of the word.

Another "Treadwell" buffet in the making.......
Unfortunately it's not just the *moron who's in danger. It's his neighbors, visitors, and anyone who happens to be outdoors in the vicinity.

If I had an encounter with an agressive bear anywhere near there, I'd be looking for some payback on that *guy.

It reminds me of that guy from the "Grizzly Man" movie. Anyone ever see it?

Yeah, Timmy *edit Treadwell will cost more bears their lives in the future than all the hunting permits of the past decade. Hope there's a special place in Hell for *edit like him:mad: I spend, and have spent considerable time in the Alaskan Bush and the one thing that is ALWAYS un-nerving is when a bear fails to stop approaching in your direction.....from downwind:thumbdn:  It usually ends with a dead bear and a report of the bear's coordinates to FW when you come out. What a waste....:thumbdn:

My guess is sooner or later a vid will surface of the aftermath of his graphic decapitation , people never learn that wild animals are always still wild. ;)

What Charlie Vandergaw is doing is much different from what Timmy Treadwell did.

I agree that feeding bears is foolish, dangerous, and generally does far more harm than good.

Vandergaw apparently helped injured bears, and is somewhat knowledgeable about their nutritional needs. Apparently the bears have not presented a problem -- as of yet -- to his neighbors, either. I could see the guvmint stepping in to "correct" this situation by locking Vandergaw in a cell and shooting all the bears. It is possible to tame -- and even train -- bears, although most would agree it is irresponsible to attempt such. If he had no neighbors, and lived hundreds of miles from civilization, it would not be so much of a problem.

I have seen footage of Timmy Treadwell. He was clearly deranged, and fantasized about being killed and eaten by bears. He also acted like a complete idiot around them, and deserved what he got.

Right or wrong, Vandergaw is clearly no Timmy Treadwell.

Aw shoot, a demerit. Don't know why, but I thought this was W&C.

Sorry, won't happen again.

"He believes he has demonstrated that the animals can be conditioned, as Treadwell's California-based Grizzly People advocated, "to live in peace with ... humans."

He's an idiot.

Some bears can "be conditioned to live in peace with" some humans . . . as long as the bears do not get sick, or hungry, or pissed off.

:D

The really twisted side of me almost wants to start a betting pool as to how long before this one gets mauled/eaten..... :D

Hmmm.....that could be a while. Treadwell was doing well until the odds caught up with him, what seven, eight years later?
