This is an email I got from my Mom today. Just a little background ...
Bear is one of three family cats. He was found in the woods 14 years ago, a few days old, with his eyes stuck shut and wracked with pneumonia. The vet said "no way he'll last the week." Mom hand fed him with an eye dropper. He grew up a runt, but with more spirit than any animal I have ever seen. He is now an old man, on his last legs, in peace, and getting ready to walk on ...
Lily is the neighbor's mean, nasty doberman.

Hi Ken
You will be glad to know that Bear stood his ground against Lily this morning. I was planting, Lily came charging at me very aggressively, and I had a hard time standing my ground (the big shovel helped though), then Lily saw Bear on the covered walkway and went to make some trouble. Bear gave Lily his meanest stare and didn't move a muscle. Lily backed down. I was very proud of Bear and know you are too. He has been eating well lately, in fact got me up at 4am today (by picking on Eddie) because he wanted to eat.
Rainy week end here.
