I got this model 4 today along with a large Sebenza. The Carson is my first custom folder and sports a 4" 154cm blade.

This knife is as perfect as any that I have ever seen and locks up extremely tight. It sure doesn't look fancy but you can feel the quality. I guess you can say that I am now a Carsonite. BTW thanks Larry from KnifeArt it was a pleasure.

Nice choice for your first custom.

Enjoy!

Actually my first custom was a Brend, this is my first custom folder.

This knife begs to be used, and with the support that Mr. Carson gives I'm not going to worry about scratching or scuffing it up. The blade shape sort of reminds me of the Spyderco Wegner. Hopefully this won't be my last Carson knife.

fq55,

That is a very nice knife, congrats!! My first custom was a Carson 21 purchased from Les Robertson. I am very impressed by his work, and impressed by the man. Before buying the knife from Les, I talked to Mr. Carson and asked some questions (being very new to custom knives, some of them were probably pretty dumb). Mr. Carson was very patient with me, and talked to me like he didn't have anything else to do and talking to me was the most important thing he had going on (when we all know that he is a very busy man). Thats one of the things that have gotten me hooked on custom knives, the good folks involved in the art.

It's funny how many people choose Kit's knives as their first custom knife. Mine was a carbon fiber and Talonite medium Model 4 with a drop point blade. Even after buying dozens more, that first one is still at the top of my "favorites" list.

Frank - I have to say you made an excellent choice for your first custom folder. I've got a 4 exactly like yours except with S90V steel and carbon fiber scales. This model definitely was designed for hard use! Unfortunately, this won't be your last Carson I guarantee

Small, medium or large........4 or 16....

It's an exceptionally worthy choice !

Nice knife. Kit does such wonderful work. I only have about a year and a half to wait for my M16. I'm counting the days.

My first custom knife was a medium Model 4 with jigged red bone scales and a S90V blade.

It was quickly followed up by a small Model 16 (stellite/titanium) and a large damascus tanto Model 16 which was pictured in Blade magazine's May '99 profile on Kit. (Click on link below my sig to see pix.)

You made an exceptionally good choice imho.

My first custom was also Kit's. I did extensive research before buying my first custom. I narrowed it down to a custom Emerson & Carson. After handling both...Kit's was my choice (regardless of price). No offense to Mr. Emerson...but Kit's knives just have that FEEL to them...like they were made for me. Mine has jigged amber bone handles with jewelled titanium liners and an S60V drop point blade. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I've since aquired several Carson knives...one with mother-of-pearl handles and blued titanium bolsters and a Daryl Meier damascus blade...SMOKIN"!!!
