Another Becker Hater?

No offense meant, but I'm not sure why these type threads get posted up here. Face it, not everyone likes the BK2. I personally do, but some don't. No big deal. It's not for everyone.

It's just a friggin knife. You like/want it or you don't. Some of these guys (link) go on like they're having an intense emotional relationship with an inanimate object.

Yeah the BK2 definitely has it's place. But strapped to my belt as my only knife in the woods, the BK2 would not be my first choice either. If I get a pound of steel, I'll take my Machax to the woods every time.

If a mod wants to Remove it that's cool. Just thought the guys review was comical.

bring it on everytime. we like to see.

good way to get info to Ethan too.

not all of us have the free time to find every post on every forum

thanks

so, my observation

the knife did its job

it did not fail him

he clearly had expectations that no knife can supply

he learned

he did things with a knife, that a smaller knife (like a 16) is probably not suited for

he clearly knew he was using his knife in a way, that many knives should not be used for (axe/hatchet substitute)

the knife did not fail him

he ... just doesn't like it

good for him

now, the question is, someone stalk him, and find out what he DOES like...

He seems to really like Moras. But I've yet to find a Mora that's a really good chopper? Ive tried but anything larger than a tooth pick takes some time to chop through. 😜

right tool, for the right job

want to chop? get an axe, or a hatchet, or a khukri

want to split? get a damned splitting axe, avoid fir and xmas trees... or a maul and wedge. or hydraulics :D

want to make feather sticks? mora!

want to prep food and make a million feather thin slices? beriner mandoline. or a good chef knife

want to skin an animal? well, more options...

want to open packages? get some EMT shears ;)

etc :D

Almost snatched one of the green handled 2's up last payday. I'll likely get one of the little buggers again eventually. The weight was never really an issue for me. And it is nice to see Becker/Ka-Bar pursuing on-going product improvements. One of the basic appeals for me re: the 2 was that it was a knife that could do some rough stuff if you did not have an axe or hatchet handy, which some misconstrue as a negative. And still be in a relatively small package. I don't know if some folks appreciate that aspect of the tool. It does have its charms for some of us. Having had and let go, I have more appreciation for it now.

i have literally within arms reach (touch touch) a KaBar BK2, convexed and Fisked by Fisk himself (badger marks), with 100 feet of paracord wrapped around the sheath

ultimate survival setup?

or just prudent? :D

i could shave with this thing. once. then i'd have to touch it up ;)

it's an amazing knife. just not for everyone or everyjob.

just like a lot of people ask me "do you have a flashlight?"

not always the right question

more like "how MANY flashlights do you have, now, on your person?" :D

From memory I read the article a year or so back. One mans opinion. And you know the saying, they're like bum holes, everyone's got one.

At least this guy is a decent writer and has his own opinions. The guy in the other thread is just an idiot.

Five or six years ago at shows, I would run an informal (and slightly inflated) "guess how many knives I have on me and win a 10% discount" game.
My erstwhile apprentice, who was about 15 at the time, asked me how many knives I actually have on me day-to-day.
I said "Kid, as you become a man, you'll realize there are questions a dude just doesn't ask other dudes". Lol

Deciding that the BK2 isn't the best knife for him doesn't equate to him being a Becker hater. It's one knife that doesn't thrill him...heck, if that criteria made one a hater, I'd have to get signed into that group because I have said negative things about the BK10. For that matter, I'm pretty sure I've said that I don't care for the BK17, and have no intention of getting a 13.
BECKER HATER!!
If I am so labeled; so be it...but then I'd have to figure out what to do with the rest of my Becker knives (all 3 of them). Before any eager hands raise, remember - I'm a Becker hater now...so I'm likely to be ousted from the group and treated with derisiion; which means you aren't getting them.

(For the record, I am not accepting this label - so getting that BK6 or the Brutes away from me would be a battle hard fought)

People are free to like or hate the BK2 as they wish, but what gets me is always the complaints and whinging about one blade not doing it all. I mean come on, if you are such a great Scout leader the first thing you instill into young cub scouts is the motto BE PREPARED. I was taught to prepare with thought and careful planning. Plus never rely on one knife, always have a back-up. A BK2 with a good lockable SAK gives me a secondary for small tasks. Likewise a little Mora could be a back-up to a BK2, BK4, BK9, etc. If you were being chased by Zombies or aliens, or some Washington State, Small Town PD into the woods, yeah you might only have one knife. But in a pre-planned camp out, why the hell only take one knife?. BK2 is freakin great knife, but no letter opener or fine precision for removing a spell/splinter. You would not take a sledgehammer to crack a nut or use an axe to peel the potatoes (unless pushed). The whole article just seems to say to me - these Scouts need to harken to a better Leader who follows the Motto.
