OK I'll try this again. I'm trying to customize a sniper M-14. I took out the inserts and got some MOP and cut to fit . I would like to know what the manufacturer's use typicaly for a finish. I painted over the last finish and did'nt like it so I removed the paint. Now I'm starting new with bare metal. This is my first attempt at doing anything to a knife. besides practicing filework on clones. HELP PLEASE

sand blast your parts
the get some stuff called gun coat
you can get it in any color you want
all you do is put it on and then bake it in an oven A kitchen oven will do

it is some good stuff

Thanks all we got here is wall mart but plenty of gun shops . appreciate the tip I'll give it a try.
