Another Bent Clip Thread

I know there have been many instances where Spyderco users have bent their Spydie clips while carrying them.

Well tonight I had bent a clip for the first time. This thread is not to knock their clips or to judge quality. It was an accident that many here have faced. Simply walked through a swinging door and it snagged the clip and really bent the clip out.

Have to say I was really upset when it happened, because the Lum is my newest Spydie! I believe I have previously read that someone had bent their Lum clip.

Anyhow 5minutes with the BM Torx Kit and P4 Squirt the clip is as good as new and back in the pocket.

Oh man a brand new ti lum! That sucks.

I wash dishes at m second job. There is a small lip on the top of the sink that is just the right height when i lean on it to grab the end of my pocket clips, so far Military, Lava and Spyderhawk Salt have all succumbed to this trap. They are easily fixed, and while they are off, I add more tension than they started with. Just in case.

seatbelts always seem to grab mine. the last time it broke the clip clean off my endura.

 the horror!

i think you can still bend it back further. if i was in your situation i would use a vise.

My couch caught the clip on my Paramilitary a few times as I was walking past it. Not sure how... there must be a strong magnetic pull in the arm of the couch that draws me towards it.

I almost had my ZDP stretch ripped from my pocket with the seatbelt the other day too. I just have to be a little more careful.

When I spring a clip, I adjust it in a vise clamping the drilled end and bending the tongue with my fingers. I adjust the gap to suit the thickness of the fabric that the clip is grabbing.
While the clip is off the knife, I check the underside for drag burrs that are formed in the blanking process. If burrs are present, I remove them with a small file. I sometimes check the burr situation on new knives to prevent premature pocket wear. An unfinished clip edge is like a buzzsaw.

Bummer bro...

If you can't bend it back I'm sure Spyderco would be more than happy to send you a new clip.

I bend them monthly unfortunately. They catch on the bun trays at work and rip it
right out of pocket. Usually I dissassemble at work then pound 'em back in shape and
their good to go, that is until they fatigue and break.
I find that the short kershaw skyline clip is one, that is very durable, and being short it
doesn't seem to catch like the long one's do. I think manufactures should install shorter
clips on knives in general.

They will but they cost like 5 bucks plus shipping. I need a new one but can't justify spending about a 1/3 of what I paid for the knife (it was lightly used) for a new clip so I just carry different knives.

Yeah, I "lost" my co-pilot for a couple days when the clip attached from my pocket to a light pole cable in the front yard while I was mowing! - Really bummed me out until coming in the drive one evening there was this "reflection" - and there was my co-pilot not even bent! I am much more careful with my version #1 Endura with molded on clip!
Peace
