Another big blade question: straights or curves?

So youa re ready to order your big bush blade, 'cuz you liek them big. No Grohmann will do: you need a big knife for chopping, cutting dinner and looking cool by campfire light as you clean the dirt from under your finger nails with it.

Here's the problem: Do you go with a "straight" like an RTAK, Busse, large bowie, etc., or do you go with "curve" like a HI, GH, CS Or Brigade QM kukri? Why?

Thanks

I like the way recurves cut but I'm getting very tired of the sharpening ordeal. Especially for a situation where I don't have my Sharpmaker, I'm voting non-curved.

I think it dependes on the use. If it's to carry on the side of a backpack to use only for shelter building, clearing camp sites, and such, I would go with a Kukri. I would then carry like a 8 inch bladed knife on my belt.

If you might need it for man or beast, I'd go with something straight. Stabs could become important, with an upset bear.

No one knife will do everything, but a big bowie can do a few diferent things.

I will have to go with curves. NOT recurves though. IMO A machette with a straight blade acts more like an axe (chopping) a machette with a more rounded blade with the curve going from choil to tip makes it a cutter not a chpper. Isn't that what machetties are for?

You mean Kate Moss or Jennifer Lopez? ;)

Seriously, while I think curves are cooler, I prefer straights for heavy duty choppers. Like Shmackey mentioned, less care needed when sharpening.
