Another BK16?....or 17

I've grown quite fond of my new 16, so naturally I feel the need for another Becker. I see a die hard following for the 17, but more use from the 16. When I find a blade I love, I try to get a twin or another pattern simular. The 14 was beautiful, but I think the 16 got me hooked.

Should I get another 16, or try out the 17? What can the 17 do that the 16 can't?

Thanks in advance!

I think you need to at least give a BK -17 a try..:)

Except for the topline of the blade and the main grind bevel they are the same knife. Same handle and edge line along the belly.

IMHO, the BK17 is the best truly modern full tang clip point belt knife design of the last 40 years. It's a better "Short USMC" than the KABAR short USMC actually is.

What it does better than the BK 16 is fine work with it's pointer tip and frankly, I think is simply a cooler looking blade. The lines on a BK 17 are positively wicked looking and balance out Ethan's handle contours visually best of all the Tweeners. It's an instant classic.

You'll never will learn anthing unless you try new things.Take a walk on the wild side and get a BK17. Then a BK 15 as well.;)

BK15. The 16 and 17 are so similar I don't see the point of getting that before you expand your repertoire of knives.

Thanks for the replies. I have larger choppers already (kabar heavy bowie, and kukri), as well as plenty of neckers. I really haven't filled the 4 inch practical knife role until I bought the 16.

Id try out the 15. I stripped the coating from mine and use it in the kitchen and for carving as well. That fine point can do some increadible woodworking. Love the choil on it. I added handle liners to mine and now its just right.

I love and use my 16 all the time and like you feel the want/need for another tweener but like others suggested I am getting the 15 here in the next week or so.....to me it offers what the 17 does over the 16 (a good tip for fine work) plus a number of other things because of the blade shape....its like covering all your bases in 2 blades .......just my opinion and at some point I will have the 17 as well

Checked out the 15, what a radical blade shape! Took some getting used to, liked the idea, but then read reviews on the knife. Looks like everyone who has one regulates it for food prep only. Is the 15 a good all around or just a fancy food cutter?

I use mine for bushcraft duties, I've used it to baton, clear ferns from a trail, open stuff....general knife duties. As well as food stuff. It also makes a great fighting knife from what I've heard. After seeing some bear poo next to my apple trees the other day I was glad I had my 15 on my hip :D

The 15 is a good blade but it's about 1" longer than the 16 and 17. Also, the position of the blade point on the 15 is much higher above the mid line of the handle compared to both the 16 and 17 which are identical in that respect. That affects your ability to control the tip for fine work. Anyone who prefers a Drop point for tip control is not going to feel very conformable with the longer upswept blade the 15.

If you get another 16 try the FPR bk16. Sabar grind with a sweet ethan signature on it.
