Another Bone 8OT

After seeing Grey Menace's beautiful bone 8OT, I got to thinking that I'd probably never find one myself since I'd been looking for about four years and only seen one beater. Those darned things were only available for a couple of years according to the old catalogs, so to me they're at least as rare as the 2OT's. Then about a week ago a blurry image showed up on Ebay under "Old Timer", and I was sure that it had to be bone. I took a chance and boy was I happy when it arrived, even had the original box!! The seller was the original owner, and although it's been used, it's still in great shape. How many people back then actually kept their knives in the box they came in? He sure must have had a lot of respect for it, and it shows. After cleaning off some rust that seemed to have accumulated over the past I don't know how many years, this is the result:

A bone-handled knife, in a wooden box is a class act, any way you look at it! What a rare treasure! Gotta find me one too!

From what I've found on Larry's site, it seems to only show up as genuine bone in the 1961 catalog (along with the 2OT), in 1962 and up it's "meerschaum unbreakable plastic" mixed with "meerschaum bone", which appears to be one and the same since the "unbreakable plastic" moniker is in the 1962 catalog.

being a naive optimist, i have a bunch of fuzzy pictured S-W, matchstriker long pull 8OTs. guess what ? all Delrin !
