Another Broken Pocket Clip

Alright went out and got another SOG. This time I decided to buy the trident. Anyways I have several SOGs and this issue is in all of my SOGs except the twitch. The extra deep carry pocket clip has flaws in its design in my opinion. I always end up with a broken pocket clip. So I contact the support staff and they tell me its designed to break under stress. What do you guys think about this. Possibly some of your experiences.

That's unfortunate.

Out of 5 SOG's with Pocket clips, only 1 ever broke. The clip on my Pentagon Elite II. Got a leather belt pouch for it and couldn't be happier. My other 4 SOG's with clips have never given me problems.

I have a SOG Trident and a SOG Vulcan. The Trident has not ever given me problems relating to breakage or bending. The Vulcan on the other hand, is a completely different story. I've had it for maybe 2 years or so and I'm on my 4th pocket clip I think; and guess what, I replaced the pocket clip about 3-4 months ago aaaand it needs another one. Big surprise. IMO, depends on which model you get. Again, the deep carry on my trident has been good :). Hope it all works out for ya!

Thats interesting.
I can see a certain logic in it. Better it break under stress than break/rip/tear whatever is stressing it, like your pocket or car seat.
Not sure I 100% agree, but I gave up arguing with engineers when I retired.:D
I'd much rather argue with whoever redesigned a perfectly functional web site and turned it into a....oh never-mind, I'll likely see Chris in a month and don't want him mad at me ;).

On the plus side from what I've read SOG is very good about replacing clips, sometimes sending multiples.
They even provide a link to request one:

Personally, I've not had a problem, but that means next to nothing since I rarely use the pocket clip on any of mine.

I am just wondering how all of you break your clips? Where is it clipped? What breaks it? A little more info would be great.

I have had a Flash II for 3 years, carrying it mostly everyday with out every having it hang on anything let alone break. Maybe it is just the models or something?

Alan, I do agree, I really liked the old wepage!

My experiences have all been a fail with the zytel slot for the deep-carry clips. the slot is a triangle and there is only one screw holding it in there. So if I hit a doorway, snag on a seat belt, or if I my sons pants snag on it when I pick him up off of my lap, the clips bend then rotate. So inevitably the pocket clip swivels even if it isn't broken. I've poured super glue into the slot after bending the clip back and that creates a hard enough bonding point that I don't have the problem again, but it seems like a flaw to me.
I've had Spydercos, Kershaws, CRKs, and Striders that all solve this problem by having at least two points of contact. Or like on the CRK, a recessed groove that makes it impossible for the pocket clip to rotate.

SOG is great about replacing pocket clips and for free, unlike a lot of companies that want $10 plus freight.

my twitch clip hasn't bent or broken yet, and i tend to have a problem with breaking clips.
