Another Burner Question

Very carefully (tounge in cheek). If you are going to light and tune it outside the forge put it in your vise. Turn on gas at LOW pressure - use a torch striker or flaming paper in front of the nozzle. If it doesn't want to light turn off the gas, wait til you cannot smell gas anymore, adjust the choke down (assuming you have the choke wide open)and try again. Somewhere in this process it shouild light up for you.

I usually just throw a lighted piece of paper in the forge and turn on the gas. Sometimes it will blow the paper out the end of the forge

. Just stomp it out and your ready to hammer (almost).
For tuneing, I usually have a friend (need a witness) to turn on the gas slowly while I do the adjusting. You wil find that you will always be trying to get a little more heat and a little more fine tune as you use it. You do need to be able to adjust it for a neutral or reducing flame when forging. I hope this helps some.

I taped a candel to a 3 ft dowel rod. Works fine. When I have a little more money I intend to hire an off duty Hanover deputy to light it with his offical Hanover lighter. That way I can get a good gas build up for a warm start before lighting!

Lmao, you guys are nutcases for sure!!! All this forge talk is making me wanna build one.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms!!!

I just bought an electric push-button bbq starter for $10 at Target. That's going into my next forge. Now, I use burning paper in the forge cavity.
