He and witnesses said he used it as a crude drill, installing cable through drywall. The trial court convicted him of carrying a concealed "dirk or dagger." The appellate court said that, in spite of the plain language of the statute, the prosecution had to prove that the defendant had carried the pointed thing with the intent to use it as a weapon, or else the law would be absurd, and the law cannot be absurd.
