Another Clausing 8250

Man, you can sure sniff these thing out! How does this compare to a Bridgeport? Ive used a clausing lathe and it was top notch.

Sweet! That machine looks to be in great shape. With a set of HArdinge collets and an Albrecht chuck, you're only a 4" Kurt vice away from having a pretty complete precision starter set up.

TNMike, the difference between this machine and a BP is that an average BP table is 9"x42" and the machine weighs in around 2100lbs. One of the great things about the little Clausing is that you get the flexability of a real knee mill in the footprint of a Chinese mill/drill. It's a manageable size for those with limited space.

Mr. Higgins, I would appreciate it if you could find one of those in the northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin area.......:)

It is simply not fair that Kanter has a nice mill and I don't. :D

Kanter's preoccupation with his vertical milling machine leaves me dubious of his sexual alignment. :p

John MacDonald did a great job of summing up the advantages of this little Clausing. I agree 100%. If you want to know about quality I would tell you that this mill could not be any better if Bridgeport made it. Clausing machines are of the finest quality and design and the 8250 will perform any knifemaker task you ask of it, and then some.

Dubious? Does that mean Horny?

Sounds like you have a bad case of Bridgport envy.
Did I mention that I have a Bridgeport?
Years ago, when I was a boy, I had a Jet mill/drill but then I grew up and became a Bridgeport owning man. I forget Jeff, what is it that you have?:p :D

Lifes not fair is it Michael? Is it fair that I was born this way? Is it fair that I own a Bridgeport and I have no idea how to use it? Is It fair that Jeff Higgins is, well, Jeff Higgins? No, Its not.

(You will have a mill soon enough)

Hey now! This isn't the JA thread!

Fitzo, I've got a BP I'll make you a good deal on. Probably less than that Clausing will end up selling for. You just have to come and get it (it's not quite as clean as the Clausing though).

I don't have Bridgeport envy, because I have a Bridgeport:)

I have DRO and power feed envy :(

Maybe what I need is a nice decked out Toolmaster! Yeah, Cincinnati knew what they were doing when they named that bad boy.......

I'm just happy to have a friend with BP! :) I'm ok with "dancing with the girl I brung...", micromilling my little heart out. Anything bigger, that'll be me on the other end of the phone, Michael!

J, what has kept me from a BP is a basement shop and a nasty garage that didn't have 220V until last year. The Clausing I could probably hire people to get down in my basement.
