The wife went and got her new computer on Monday.
Its a Magnesium Gray HP p6754ypc . Looks cool , and seems to be working good. The only issue I'm noticing is when I am on a forum, not just BF's, it sometimes takes a long time for things to load.

Are there settings that needs to be changed to make it work correctly ? The wifes decent at figuring things out, but I'm a total idiot with computers.

Its running Windows 7, and I've tried using both Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome.

Thanks

Mike

Try Mozilla Firefox and also download "Fasterfox Lite" out of the add-ons section on the mozilla website. It's really quick and simple and doesn't use up a lot of system resources. I was a die hard microsoft fan and of course still am, but since using firefox i don't use IE anymore. So try that out and see how it works. Google chrome to me seems like a crippled browser and IE is just too bulky.

Might also be some security software bogging it down a bit. Most of what comes pre installed is crap.

It's not a browser issue. Seems more like a network connection or security settings issue.

i was thinking this, but he didn't mention any lagginess on his computer. Which i then took as a software issue. And true also with the security system, but still, firefox seems to speed stuff up.

Lag on the network will not necessarily cause lag on the computer itself. If the rest of his system is functioning up to speed then it is a network issue I suspect he is dealing with which could be caused by a security setting. I would look at the firewall first and then check the internet connections. A simple loose connection could cause the problem. With that said he may also want to have his connection coming into the home checked.

I would do a complete wipe and reinstall of Windows 7.

PCs ship with a bunch of bloatware that you don't need, if you reinstall Windows 7 and only install what you need, you'll get rid of all of those security trials they give you.

In my experience, bloatware does nothing but slow down your computer.

Let's hope he ordered the Operating System Recovery CD. If not he will have to utilize the Recovery Partition of his hard drive (HP does this now).

Thanks for the responses. Just got home from work, and am to tired to mess with it right now. I will start checking the things that were suggested tomorrow and see what happens.

I would try both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Chrome is generally recognized to be much, much faster but in some (very odd) circumstances Firefox is faster.
