Recipe for this was 12" .25 thick 1045 steel rod, wound over with .75 tow cable, then bound with two Oregon-brand chainsaw chains, twisted, folded twice.....forged to a blade, edge quenched, 3X tempered, etched and blued, then sanded at 1500 grit.

The blade measures 7" and is slightly over .25" thick.

Everything welded up nice and the knife cuts very well.

Pretty tricky to weld all that together.

I have not decided on a guard/handle combo.......any suggestions???

That looks great. I like the pattern. It's mind boggling how many patterns you can come up with. I'm trying woodgrain today.
That's going to make somebody a nice knife!;)

very nice indeed!
i love the pattern it took on...as far as the handle guard combo,
how about a nice dark wood such as ebony, maybe with a stag spacer with a bronze guard?
i think it would compliment the blade without taking away from the damascus pattern...
great job on the blade!

Greg, Greg, Greg. I believe you've got that damascus making down, but you forgot to throw in an old pipe wrench and a wheel off a 72 pinto :D ,
nice blade, if it were mine I'd put on a brass guard and a goat horn handle.

Keep'em comin

Thanks guys,

Damascus blades are cool because you can't stop looking at them.

Notice on the full blade pic the bland area that runs along with the clip.....it is the 1045 rod that was down the middle of the billet then follows the forging of the tip.....I wish my camera was better detail.....lots of pattern in this one.

That looks Totally AWESOME!!!!!!
The patterns that we get when we use old stuff in the mix and not just making a sterile plain alternating layer of even counts type of billet.
Keep up the good work...
How about a stainless guard and stag or bone handle, maybe a curly maple handle..These keeping in the theme of the Frontier style Damascus ( using junk for the mix ) That would give it a old time look and feel.

Well....I ended up using my last piece of Sambar. The guard is mild steel and has some filework.

The knife cuts very well!

That is just way to COOL looking..
The stag and Mild steel was a great choice for this Bowie.
Great looking Package what kind of sheath are you going to put on it?
And What is next ?
Bruce

That's a perfect combo. Like I said, somebody's going to het quite a knife. I like the clip also. I see way too many Bowies with a shorter clip and that's just not how it was done.
First rate job!!!A+++
