mine just arrived-
i must say the damascus just stands out-not subtle like the other damascus knives ive had-

if i had one major complaint it would be-

WTF DIDNT YOU USE NICER HANDLES?

these blades are the cats ass and deserve way better handles- i shoudnt have to buy another leek just to steal the handle-lol

or is that the game plan-sell damascus leeks with plain jane handles and force people to buy another style leek so they can have handles as good as the blade- sorry if i let the cat out of the bag:foot:

why not just open a custom shop like buck and offer just the leek -we could pick out damascus, zdp or what ever steel and choose plain, colored ,ti , ect ect handles-

yeah, you and many others including myself have the same question... ALTHOUGH, I have said before that I really liked the price. Most damascus knives also have a nicer handle, but also have a higher price

Umm...again, this knife was a request from the customer. We had little design input. I think it looks great, plus with the abundance of Leek frames on the market, you can all turn it into your own personal favorite.

that feeble excuse wont cut it-
i told you before to tell people that I SAID SO- and all will be right in the world

I think it looks great

Myself included. I like the silver against the blackness of the blade.
It looks really cool. A fancy shmancy handle would take away
from the attractiveness of the blade. IMO

Oh yeah, since I'm a pig I ordered 3 more. :)

I have to agree with Thomas and 2 bros. I just got one at the end of last week and I think the silver scales look great with the DAM blade. However I was quite skeptical until I saw it in person.

I had one in my hand but was very disappointed and had to say no.IMHO Kershaw had the chance to move up to real class with this one ie: Damsteel and Ti handle. They settled for a stainless handle and carbon steel blade and there is no magic in this one.

Please refer to post #4, Thomas explains perfectly why the knife was made the way it is.

Kershaw had the chance to move up to real class?? Kershaw is nothing but class with or without this knife. IMHO

Hi

I did read post number 4 and I understand the reason given.I own a zdp-189 Leek and I Love it.The 189-zdp is really nice and the damascus isn`t no matter who designed it.Of course this is just my opinion.

I don't think you do understand.
A very large customer of theirs asked they use a carbon
damascus steel supplied by Alabama Damascus. It was also
requested they use silver handles.
Kershaw did not produce this knife for everyone, the produced
it for THAT customer to the customer's specs.

ZDP-189 Leek isn't classy enough? Composite blade Tyrade?

Now I do understand and the Tyrade does look interesting,I will post if I get one!

Cheers

Thanks for understanding, I didn't want to sound like a p%$k.

Yes, the Tyrade does look very interesting. Most of us are anxiously awaiting
the arrival.

BTW, Welcome to Bladeforums!

Well, I ordered one... some of the Damascus from up near Jax State here in Alabama is quite pretty. This little piece in the Leek should be nice... but, the best bargain, that is, in pound-o-Damascus for your buck, is in the 'sale' priced 12" - 14" Bear MGC 'Bowies' a favored TN knife dealer has generally for a few bucks more than that Leek. Something 'sharp' from Alabama! Hmmm, I wonder how many Leek blades could be made from one of those bowie blades...

I have a 'custom' Buck 110 with a Damascus blade due here probably early next week - maybe coincident with the Dam Leek. I'll compare carefully... but predict here and now that the Dam Leek will see more pocket time!

PS I like my Bear MGC Damascus Bowie... 'Made in Alabama'. Of course, it resides in a glass case... no pocket time... darn near a sword...

flipped it for tip up carry-rides way too high out of the pocket for me-so

its now my money clip-works great-just have to remember not to put change in that pocket-

I think it would be a stinking awesome thing if you guys had a Leek custom shop like Buck does for the 110.

Thomas said it ain't gonna happen. Many of us Leek lovers already have enough to mix and match untill were happy with what we have.

Got my Dam Leek yesterday. Yeah, it's a bit nicer than my only other Leek - a 1660BR - even if I like the flat sides of the liner lock/outer panels (scales ?) of my older one (May 04) better than the newer (Aug 07) frame lock. Neat knife. Guess I'll carry it with the clip on it - my others are less the clip. I'll add a picture of my 'huge' Damascus collection soon.
