didn't do much but wander around exploring new areas then went back to my usual home base to go pile up firewood for future overnighters...the stream is mightly low right now...i don't think i've ever seen it this low in years.
normally, i can't even sleep near it because the water is so loud it drowns out everything else (i get paranoid if i can't hear the woods around me)...this time i barely notice the water rippling it's so slow flowing.
i wish i didn't enjoy staring at/playing with fire on overnighters...gathering firewood is so time consuming i have to break it up on different day hikes - an entire day just sawing up all the logs and another entire day just carrying it all back to camp for future trips.
my fiddleback forge 12" machete got used a lot again...uh oh, the lite machete has a serious competition now! for years it's been my goto machete/chopper (and every other machete i put up against it paled miserably) but i like the fiddleback's handle so much i ordered the 18"...there's going to be some serious machete showdown soon!
also, got to break-in my new kifaru timberline 3. having extensively used their bomb-proof but super heavy 1000d and ultralight packs, i think i found my sweet spot in 500d material...tough enough that i don't have to worry about brushing up against torns but still pretty light! several times i had to check that i did pack water and once in the woods i re-checked again and again that i didn't run out of water because it felt so light.
saw this little guy near my camp probably watching me hard at work all day.
on the way out came across a pair of deer.
