went for another day hike last weekend to scope out new overnighter spots...a skink inside a tree hole.

virgin birch tree – clearly only weirdos like us would appreciate all that bark.

someone was looking for a little love.

check out the view...no boat launch or anything, strictly a hike-in lake so the area is pristine.

been hanging out with reuben for too long...i've cut enough weight over the years that my day pack is now a gossamer gear riksak

my kinda hike...i'm impressed that juicy g managed to tough it out with this terrain with no complaints.

my buddy has come a long way. a few months ago he barely hiked 1 mile in before nearly passing out...this hike we knocked out 15 miles.

Looks like jets have no problem finding the lake.

No more pictures of 5 Guys Burgers PLEASE. I am not allowed to eat juicy burgers anymore (tick based red meat allergy). I am really craving a burger and 5 Guys makes a good one. How about some ribs at Logans?

Good to scope out areas during nice weather. I need to get off my butt. Major dental appointment tomorrow. Ugh. Let me tell you, it sucks getting older.

Great pics as alway JV!
Love the beautiful scenery, great gear and tasty food :D
And orange is a lovely color for sure.
Makes me plan for my next trip in october :)

It's good to see you get your friend out...that's the best we can do which is to get our closer friends out to enjoy it with us. Great adventure and story JV3, thanks for sharing,

Wow that looks really fun and really cool pictures.
I myself look for tough terrain to hike in, i dislike boring flat dirt road type hiking.

that sucks about that tick-based allergy...although it might be better than lyme disease - a friend's sister-in-law has it and it's devastating because it wasn't caught early enough.

i hear yah about getting older - that's what prompted me to trim my pack weight over the years.

thanks, man! fall is definitely here - the area nearest the lake there was a pretty thick layer of leaves already...can't wait to ramp up my overnighters.

thanks, man! he's steadily losing weight too so we can definitely bring in the miles for the overnighters this fall...best part is other friends are starting to want to hike too.

thanks! best part of a tough terrain is there's no broken bottles/trash everywhere.

Looks like a fine place to wander around and explore. Like I said earlier, I need to get off my butt and get out tramping around in the woods. Hmm... maybe this weekend would be good and I might just find some cool mushrooms in the woods.

On the tic based red meat allergy, I am discovering that I can eat things like roasts (non-greasy) as long as I don't gorge. Just not often. So, no 16oz T-bones or big juicy (aka greasy) burgers. I have made a few on the grill where they are pretty grease-less and had no problems. It is an evolving situation. Been thinking about going back to my allergist and requesting new blood tests be done to see if I still have it in my system as it has been a couple years now. They really don't know much about it. I love burgers and would love to have things back to normal.

You certainly aren't "old" yet. You'll know when you're old when you won't jump off big logs and rocks anymore just because that's the easiest way to get from point A to B in the woods. When that UK basketball player broke his leg just jumping during the NCAA tournament a couple years ago, I said no more jumping unless I have to. I have never broken a bone and don't want to start now. You only have one body.

Here's a pic I took quite a while back (~15 years ago) in the second Five Guys restaurant the Murrell family opened (on King Street in Alexandria, VA) before Five Guys became chain/franchise in 2003. The one at which this pic was taken closed two years ago.

Now that Five Guys is a chain, they are everywhere. There's one a couple of miles from the house I've lived in the last 9 years. I've been to it only twice. They just aren't quite the same.
