I have $25 (parental generosity not included) to spend at Amazon.com (Gift Card)and I need to know which SAK to get as an EDC. Let the games being :D

Also, are the Soldier's scales as thin and unergonomic as they look?

Thanks

BTW: There used to be Viccy website with all sorts of little customer stories/reviews under the description of each knife, and now I can't find it. It was one of the official ones, maybe an old version of victoriox.com or swissarmy.com?

What type of things do you think you'll need it for? Your answer to that will help us give you suggestions.

Meanwhile, here are a couple to consider. Both are two layers thick, which I find large enough to get a good grip on, but small enough for front pocket carry:

1. Electrician - Same as Soldier, but replaces can opener/small screwdriver with a sheepsfoot blade. The spear point blade on these Alox models is a bit larger and sturdier than the plastic-handled models, which I like. I use the large screwdriver for scraping and prying stuff, which saves wear and tear on my blades. The awl comes in handy too.

2. Tinker - Useful selection of tools, including a phillips head screwdriver.

dude, check out the trailmaster, available for 24.95 + shipping(on ebay and knives plus)--one hand operation, two locking blades, comes in black-looks good and has a very useful selection of tools-i think im going to have to have one myself:cool:

Well, tarsier, just around the house stuff really, but I do like to have options :D My biggest turn off about the Soldier is that I really like the smooth plastic scales and they're replacable, wheras the alox aren't.

Get the Soldier; Knife Knut basic requirement. The bldes will wear out before the handles.

Two words to remember; Deluxe Tinker. It might take a couple more bucks that what you have on that gift card, but that one is MY favorite SAK.

Well guys, it's looking like my new companion will come with alox scales :D And it's only 18 bucks :) Here's an awesome picture from e-bay that put the whole thin-scale thing to rest:

Another Victorinox to get would be the Farmer. It has the same tools and handles as the soldier, except a woodsaw and lanyard holder have been added to the mix. It is available from Smokey Mountain Knife Works for $19.95. Just a thought. :)

This is hardly an original observation, but isn't it interesting that the "real" "Swiss Army Knife" doesn't have all the gadgets -- just the same stuff as the U.S. issue piece or "Boy Scout Knife."

Oh believe me, that's the one I want more than anything, but I can't seem to find it on Amazon :(

Ordered it. :D

I was about to get the electrician EXCEPT:

1) The Soldier's can opener adds tool variety.
2) The logo on the Electrician sucks :D
3) There's a name plate on the electrician. If I want engraving, I'd get a nice blade etching.

Thanks for all the help, I can't wait until February 16th'ish.
