another Dozier question

I have narrowed my search down to a Dozier K-4 Straight Hunter or a Yukon Skinner model. I like the handle better on the K-4 but I am wondering about the blade shape. I will be using this knife primarily for a small camp knife (no hunting). From pictures it looks like the blades of the K4 and the Yukon Skinner are similar except that it looks like the Yukon has a SLIGHT drop at the tip. Can someone verify this who has actually seen the knife? Would the slight drop point make it more versatile than the K4?

One last question, are the blade thicknesses similar on these two blades?

Thanks a bunch!

I know you'll enjoy your stay. In case you didn't know, Bob Dozier has a little forum over at his site that is frequented by the man himself. Try www.dozierknives.com and you can access it from there.

There' s a wealth of knowledge at the Dozier web forum. Go check it out. But to offer some experience here, since you probably won' t include skinning an animal, then perhaps a clip point model with less upswept/ bellied design would be more versatile. Take a good look at slightly thicker stock K-1 General Utility or the larger KS-3 Pro Guide model. Their pointier tip with top swedge can handle more delicate chores. And at the same time can provide some possibly needed thrusting capabilities where good penetrating qualities are required!

I have owned and used one of Bob's Yukon Pro Skinners for years. It is without a doubt the very best hunting/camping knife I have ever held in my hands.

To answer your specific question, the blade does have a very subtle drop point. But, the point is still plenty "pointy" for very delicate work with the tip.

The ergonomics of this knife, like all of Bob's knives, are superb. The handle is very comfy, and remains that way throughout any hard use you may put it through. I once processed five very large whitetail deer in an afteroon (field dressing, skinning, quartering) with my Yukon Pro Skinner without a break... and with no re-sharpening!

It is one awesome knife!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Today I ordered a Yukon Pro Skinner with a K-4 type handle. Looking forward to getting it, the waiting (4 months) will be the hard part. ordering was the easy part, those Dozier people are just so nice!
