Plan: take Mother in Law one day early to Billings. Storm coming in and blowing snow will make journey more hazardous if we wait until Sunday. Mission; Drive 200 miles to Billings, survive Mother In Law, drop her off at hotel, go to Walmart and pick up Old Favorite .22 mag single shot rifle, drive 200 miles home before temperatures drop and blowing snow stops traffic.

Addendum: Toss insulated coveralls, winter boots, warm hat, extra socks and stuff in car before leaving.

Made it back. Walmart almost refused to give me the .22
Long dumb story.
Took an hour.

Drove home and just beat the snow. I feel sorry for anyone on that highway now.

A guy died of hypothermia recently out there in your territory...add a space blanket to your daily pocket stuff.

The back of the truck has a box filled with survival stuff. I always take extra coats and often shoes.

Today it is pure hell. I feel sorry for anyone on those roads.
When I pulled in yesterday it was just turning to pure snow and the wind was howling.
No one should drive to Billings today. No one.

Darn, Tom, they'd have to find you with a GPS if you drove today in Montana. It's bad out there. White out.

We've got 40 mph winds right now with gust to 60 mph. There's a wind advisory out for the whole state of Oklahoma.
The nice part is that it's 72* with a heat index of 70*, earlier it was a heat index of 76 degrees. :D

I hate bitter cold weather but don't mind 32* too terribly much. ;)

That's the weather we had before the Storm hit. Be careful. It's the wind that kills on the plains when it combines with cold.

We had multiple severe grass fires last night over several counties. Lots of people evacuated but few homes and out buildings lost thankfully.
Today the wind changed to the north and west and the windchill got to at least as low as 27* at one point I saw. Still strong winds but nothing to compare to last night.
I had to log off because we lost our power. I'm surprised as well as happy that it was only out a little over three hours.
This ndn stayed inside today except for a brief foray outside to see if the antennna on the ground next door was ours or theirs.;)
It was thiers.

No one should drive to Billings today. No one.

If you are going to go out in those conditions, at least point the car towards Florida.

Regretedly I have to crawfish on my previous statement that few homes were lost. In actuallity there were several. According to the news tonight there were over thirty families homeless in one of the areas hit by the wildfires, terrible. There were several other homes lost in other areas some together and others as individual residences. One of them belonged to one of the volunteer firemen fighting the fire just a few miles from his home.
Fortunately many personal items were saved because of the family's awareness and foresightedness.
