Another dumb newbie question

I got my first Busse a week or two ago and low and behold I have decided its time for another:eek: The one I want is a satin and snake skin or tiger active duty. These things seem to be harder to find than plutonium. So my newbie question is can you call Busse and just order a knife the way you want it? If so what is the ETA and cost of an order like that. If you order it does it come from the custom shop and have the custom shop logo on the blade? Any help yall can give would be greatly appreciated. Also I would like anyones opinion on blade finishes and thickness. I am undecided between satin or double cut. Is the double cut a coating that can be rubbed or chipped off or is it just a duller finished satin?
like the difference between a brushed stainless pistol or a polished. What do yall think would look better with the snake or tiger micarta? As for thickness I think I would like something on the thin side for EDC and for a good slicer. Any suggestions yall have are welcome. Thanks

Satin/Snake ADs were a custom shop offering I believe. I really don't know if you can order one directly. I imagine that you could but it would take a long time and cost quite a bit. I think customs are about $100/inch (maybe more).
Also I think you can order them sterile (no logo) or with the custom shop logo or the standard Busse logo, since it essentially a custom job.

If so what is the ETA and cost of an order like that.

I'm sure you'll get a bunch of "two weeks" by asking this:D, but I'd say closer to a year.

Is the double cut a coating that can be rubbed or chipped off or is it just a duller finished satin?

Double-cut is Busse's name for bead-blasted. Essentially it is bare INFI that has been blasted with small particles under high pressure. I'm not sure what medium they use, but it produces a beautiful dull/matte finish. It is not a coating so it is prone to some staining/rusting if not cared for properly.

I prefer Snakeskin to Tigerhide, but they are both very nice. It's a personal choice. Look at a bunch of photos. Remember both colors are extremely variable and a lot of that depends on the way the slabs are cut and ground.

For a good all around I don't think I would go higher than 0.2" in thickness. I have a tan/double cut Game Warden that is .17" and that is a mean slicer, but still thick enough to bash around. I think it's a great compromise in sliceability/durability. I don't think I'd go lower than that for an all-purpose knife.

The AD is a super knife. I hope you are able to get one. I would put a want to buy ad for a Satin/Snakeskin AD in the exchange. You may wait a while to get one, but it will probably be less time than trying to get one from the shop.

I think it would be faster to post a "want to buy" in the exchange for a Snake AD.

The double cut is not a coating but a two process blasted finish.

I actually like double cuts better than satin but I'm sure that I'm in the minority there.

About the fastest way you'll see that knife is to find one of the new Tiger Active "Heavy" Duties and have someone strip it and finish it for you. This works for a user but would not be the best for resale down the road, maybe Busse would do it for you.

How thick the blade might be I think is a personal preference. I like thicker blades than most (around .2 to 22) and some guys here think .14 is too thick; so you are on your own there.

My thoughts exactly, probably the most economical, too. Good luck.

Gots to be plenty of tiger/black AD's out there. There were so many in the store that I grabbed TWO! (No. no extras. One for me, one for a friend.)

Thanks for all the advice, I posted on the wanted to buy, I check the BCS about 15 times a day, and I guess praying couldn't hurt either.

Quickly, sell your only Busse right away or you are DOOMED! DOOMED, I tell you!

:D I was fortunate to score a satin/snakeskin AD user off eBay a few weeks ago.
