My neighbor's wife bought this one for her husband's birthday. I think the tiger stripe scales turns out real nice. It was hard to let this one go.

The blade is etched in vinegar for several days to obtain this finish. It's very tuff.
If you get a stain, you can use a wire wheel or steel wool on the blade. It will not harm this finish.

Blade Steel: 1095.
Grind: Flat.
Blade Length: 3 1/2" tip to choil.
Overall Length: 8".
Scales: Tiger Stripe Maple with Copper pins.
Sheath: Hand sewn leather sheath.
Filework on spine.

how do you do the vinegar stain? just soak it in vinegar?

you know what else works?

ketchup and mustard mixed together...
a bit of lime juice...
and last but not least.. stick the knife into a potato over night.
I am a noob so I am not sure this works on all metals worth a crap... I mostly build from old leaf springs and old files and stuff... so ??

patinas are kind of love or hate but done well they can look pretty stunning...
kind of like taking a piece of furnature and then distressing it??

but yeah to answer your question: yes exactally.

Thanks Pedervisti

Deltablade, that's right, I just put the blade in an old pickle jar that's full of white vinegar. Then, depending on how new (strong) the vinegar is, the etch comes out in 1 to 3 days, sometimes longer. (If it's really cold in my shop. The vinegar works better when it's warm).

One other thing, you want to coat the cutting edge or it will get eaten away very quickly. I've used bees wax, fingernail polish, and super glue. The super glue seems to stay on longer for me. You may have to re-coat the edge a couple of times because the vinegar will eventually "pulls it" off the blade. Sometimes I'll find the whole coating floating in the jar in one long piece.

Man, that is one pretty knife! One of the nicest looking ones I have seen in a long time. What is the normal "tariff" on one of these beauties? What is your usual timing from order to delivery?

Thanks!

AJ

Great looking knife. Every thing fits well together, the finish on the blade, copper pins, curly maple and the sheath. Great job all around. I have some 1095 kicking around I think I'll ...

Great looking knife! Where do you get your tiger stripe maple and how do you finish it to make those stripes pop!! Thanks.
