I love my ENER-G2 (1740) so much that it's the only knife that ever comes out of the drawer anymore. I love the mechanism, the shape of the blade and Lee now lives in my home town (random trivia in case there's ever a board game). The handle isn't my favorite, but I like everything else so much I've long since overlooked it.

I was really pleased to find out it had been updated with the new G-10 handles and decided to pick one up. While I generally always purchase from NGK, I went trolling the 'Bay just to see if any of the new ones had shown up there yet and came across this.

Had to grab it, and should hopefully be here first part of next week. I guess that new G-10 purchase will wait...how does that always happen? :)

I've got 6 of em, and want another! One of its versions gets shared pocket time with the Lahar.

i've got 4 now. the black ones arrived today! im not much for PS blades so i won't bother with those two but i gotta say they are some fine things. can't wait for the OD-1

wow... you guys sure buy a lot of extras. You obviously have too much, you need to give some to me ;).

So what exactly is wrong with the handle? I found it very nice, grippy, but not so overly ergonomic that it restricts the grips you can use.

um nothing is wrong with the handle i was talking about the serrated versions. and i don't have extras just one each of the satin and one each of the black :)

I've got no problems with its function, it's just that I don't think it's the best looking handle. The rough texture under the clip does seem to wear the pockets in my pants a little faster, but nothing unacceptable.

I always preferred the handle on my Spyderco Caly 3 to most of my other pocket knives, which looks very similar to what's on the new ENER-Gs.

tiptone, regarding the texture of the inserts, I'm guessing you're speaking about the earlier first models? If so, some 400 grit paper and a sanding block will knock down the roughness of the trac-tec inserts without scratching the handle itself. Or just bend the clip out a little. The later models (not the G-10 limited edition ones out now) had a toned down version of the inserts. The G-10 is very nice, and a regular production model will be out sooner or later that has the satin hollow ground blade in 14C28N.

Yes, my EDC has a born-on date of Sep 07, so I'm guessing that's an early version. It's never been bad enough for me to feel I needed to do anything about it, it just doesn't slide in and out of my pocket as easy as my Mini-Grip or the above-mentioned Caly 3.

I think the new ones will be great, even better when I can get the new handle on the original-finish blade.
