So I find this Buck 503 at a gun show a couple months ago. It has a broken blade, but otherwise is in good shape. I give the guy $5 for it. I figure for $10 I will send off to the spa and have my first 503. date code puts it at 2003. I have never sent a knife to Buck for spa treatment before so I am kind of looking forward to seeing it when it comes back. Here it is in the state I bought it in.
Fast forward a few weeks and I get an e-mail telling me my 503 is in the mail and will be delivered soon. I get home from work and the little brown box is on my doorstep. It feels a bit heavy, I open it up and see a sheath, but wait, this sheath is way too big for my 503. I continue digging through the box and I find a 50th anniversary 110 knife. After exclaiming a loud “”Are you Kidding me” I can’t believe they would replace my 503 with a 110, but that’s fine, I am thrilled with a 110. So I am trying to wrap my head around this and I grab the shipping slip that’s in the box, and now it all makes sense, they accidently sent me some other guy’s knife. Here it is.
Being the knife nut that I am, I of course want to make sure this guy, we’ll call him Joe, gets his knife back. I break off a call to the Buck folks in Post Falls and get a nice woman (Laurie I think) on the phone. I explain that this 110 isn’t my 503, and that Joe in North Carolina probably won’t be as pleased as me to get my 503. She says oh no, I hate it when we make mistakes. She calls Joe, explains the situation, and calls me back. Her solution, I keep the 110, Joe keeps the 503 and she sends us each a replacement. I now have a brand new 503, and the 110. Joe gets a replacement 50th anniversary 110, and keeps my 503. My new 503 came in the mail today.
You can see on my 110 that it has the 50th anniv. medallion, but a 2017 blade. So now I am on the hunt for a true 50th anniv. 110 to go with my re-bladed one, you know how it is……………
So thanks Buck, it is a pleasure doing business with you and I will remain a loyal customer!!!
