Want to know more about this FATwood...
Natures kerosene huh??? How flammable? Only old pine stumps?
 
I added a few more pics to this thread.

I would also like to hear some stories locations etc. of this magical fire starting wood. I would love to hear from someone who gathers it often like I do and see if they too find it the same way.

Bottom line, if you can find it in the woods, you can put some in your survival gear and it will be there for years and not go bad.

If you search this forum for threads with fatwood in the title, you will get all the information you need to find and collect fatwood. It's great stuff!
 
It's everywhere out here in the cascades and coastrange. It's hard to go 100 feet without finding some douglas fir pitchwood. You can pull it right out of the water and shave it down and build a fire out of it. As far as finding it goes, I'd just say look for stumps or downed trees that are mostly rotted away and look for areas within those rotted trees that are not rotten. That's usually pitch/fat wood.
