I know I just posted a thread on Fatwood. But today I went walking with the kids and found a small stump that was already out of the ground. I couldn't resisit. :D I picked it up and carried it home. It wasn't light either. Anyway, I though tomorrow I would processes it and post some pics. Gonna try to cut it into 4 to 5 inch pieces. Here's two pic's from today. More tomorrow....

Here's a pic of the stump. I cut a little out of the root part. Also in the pic is my bravo-1 and a cheap coleman axe I plan to replace.

That's terrific, when you see what fatwood sells for (especially in the UK) that's a heck of a good find!

Look forward to the pics.

Well, time processing the stump didn't go as I thought it would. First my chainsaw is broken. I thought I'd try using a regular saw but that was a little too optimistic. The fatwood is so hard it would take forever to actually cut it up in nice sizes using the saw. So I just use a mallet an chisel to break open the log and look inside. It was fatood from the roots to about three inches up. Here's some pic's

Here's some pics of some pieces I got off the stump. The rest of the stump I just put to the side until I get another chainsaw (hopefully soon).

These are some of the small pieces that I scooped together that came off when I used the axe and chisel on the stump.

I lite this pile with the going gear misch metal rod. I like the rod because you do not need small shavings to get a fire going. The metal shavings burn long enought to light tinder that's a little bigger. Two strikes and it was lite.

Just some bigger (small) pieces I picked up

I was surprised that the fatwood on this stump didn't go up much farther. Usually I see it go up near the top of the stump. Here's another stump I took a picture of today with fatwood going further up it. You can see where I cut it with my axe.

Here's a close up of the part I cut with the axe:

Here's a larger stump by my place. I cut off the small piece in the second photo:

Here's the pieces from the above photo. I was hoping to cut up the stump today in pieces like this but it didn't work out.

I think until I get rid of all this I won't cut any more up. :)
