The same church fair that had the KaBar fish knife I posted about the other day has yielded another nice knife.
This is, as best I can tell based on my rather limited knowledge of the SAK catalog, an alox Secretary model. Measures 84mm closed. The neat part is that it has the name & logo of a local company. Barbour Welting has been in business in for over 100 years making shoe welting. The city of Brockton was known as the Shoe City since it had a great number of shoe making companies, some well back into the 19th century. All the shoe manufacturers have left Brockton, the last in 2009, but the history still has an impact. Both of my parents grew up in Brockton and my father's mother worked in a shoe factory in Stoughton, a neighboring town. Just by virtue of the name and location of the company printed on its side this knife has a greater significance to me than it otherwise might.
The knife is in very good shape. Smooth action, just couple of small dings in the finish, no wobble to the blades. It should polish and sharpen up quite nicely. The tang is marked on one side with Elinox and the crossbow. If I recall correctly Elinox was the name for the economy brand of Victorinox. I'll have to do some research to see if I can find a range of years for the manufacture date based on that mark. The zip code shown on the knife is no longer used in Brockton but I'm not sure since when. That could also help date the knife.
