Heres one I just finished. I thik it turned out pretty well aside from a few scratches I couldn't get rid of. Theres 2 or 3 on the blade from when I filed in the serrations, that aren't bad enough to justify taking the thumbstud off and refinishing the whole thing. Theres a few on the bolsters that I couldn't get off without really sanding a lot of material off too. They got kind of streaked when I wire brushed them but don't look to bad. The scales are made of black G10 thats hand rubbed to 400 grit.
The scales have simple pattern of file work all the way around. It was hard coming up with something that would show up on the thin edge of the liners.
I did the serrations witha couple half round diamond files. That took a little time

Sorry the pics aren't any better. They hide alot of the mistakes but don't show much of the good stuff either

Hmmm. My wife keeps asking what I want for Valentine's Day...I think I have an idea...

Matt, nice job! You're too appologetic. But I guess that means you have the right standards, doesn't it? Good show.

Looks great Matt! The pics are a little fuzzy so it's hard to really see the filework but I mostly get the idea. The serrations are terrific. All I did on mine was to polish the bolsters and put on the handle material, but you've really gone the extra mile.

I really got to get one of those kits.

Unfortunatly I don't have a credit card, do they take checks on them.

BTW I think one of those would look really nice with a cocobolo handle (good thing I have a slab of it somewhere) and a swing guard on there.

Thanks guys

Hey TTTT, Koval will accept checks. Thats how I paid for mine. You can order buy mail or phone and I think they're set up online now also.

Saberman,
The filework wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I started on the non locking liner and went right around wihtout thinking about it. Then I picked up the locking liner and realized that it may be alot harder than the other and too hard to file. Thats when I about had a heart attack

I didn't notice any difference between the two though.
It only took a little more than an hour. I started off and marked out all the half round cuts in every .25" starting about 3/16" behind where the bolster goes. Then I took a dremel with a cylinder shaped aluminum oxide grinding point ( about 1/8" in diameter)and made a starting cut at every line I had marked out. Once they were all started I finished off with the smallest chainsaw file I had and a tapered round needle file. That seemed kind of plain so I added a straight cut on about a 45 degree angle between each round cut. I did that with a dremel and cut off wheel. The fine ones that aren't reinforced. The only thing that got really challenging was working on the cut section of the liner. You had to steady that with one hand and work with the other.
The pattern looks sort of like this :

( other side.

Thanks for the link on thumbnails. I'll try it out on the picture in my first post later.
